Daemon sighed, "I will stop them for now. But if she continues to disobey there seems to be no alternative."

Joanan sighed.
"I'm getting bigger every day. It's probably best for both of us not to be together until after the birth, now. Perhaps you should make a fuss of Morgan, treat her kindly, and she may fall into your arms again. Buy her a present and ask her pardon for the behaviour of the Kingsguard. That won't be easy for you to do, I know, but it may be the only way for you to make progress with Morgan. I swear to you that hitting her will achieve nothing."
She paused and looked straight at him.
"I will love you more if you can learn to humble yourself for the good of the realm and your own happiness."

Daemon frowned, "She is not a dragon? What do I care of her accept she does her duty."

"I thought you loved her once," Joanna said. "I think she may still love you. She used to, anyway. Besides, you are missing the point. I know you love me but I can't help wondering if you would be unkind to me as you have been to Morgan. I need to see you treat her kindly, for my own peace of mind."

Arya came to see the Queen Joanna.

Arya was shown in at once. Joanna was abed, having given birth to her son only the day before. She looked exhausted but seemed to have difficulty keeping her eyes off the cradle where her son lay. She managed a smile for Arya, though.
"Cousin, welcome," she said. "Have you come to see my son?"

It was not her original intention but she thought best to nod and smile, "Yes, congratulations, you and the baby are healthy? You look awfully tired."

Joanna laughed.
"Of course I am. I spent half of yesterday in labour. I need to rest, that's all. My son and I are both fine, thank you. He's healthy, but then he's Daemon's blood and mine. How could he be otherwise? How are you, Arya? I've not seen you in a little while."

"I am doing fine. The Queen looks less bright than you, and you have been through labour. I come on her behalf in fact. She wishes to visit Oldtown, I think it would lift her spirits some."

Joanna said nothing for a moment; seh was trying to gauge Daemon's reaction to that.
"I see," she sat at last. "Perhaps the power of home would be a fine restorative and last I saw her Morgan didn't look happy at all. I wonder why you have come to me though. It's not my place to interfere in matters between Daemon and Morgan. I have counselled Daemon towards kinder treatment of Morgan but I am not sure I dare do more than that."

"I didn't know if he would deny me outright but I know that he listens to you, so in the event I failed perhaps you would take kindness and ask him as well. Oh have mercy on my friend my Queen! Please." Arya held the Queen's hand gently.

Joanna's smile faded slightly.
"Arya, darling, I'm happy to help you but Morgan won't see me, she returns my invitations inviting her to dine with me and make peace and won't have anything to do with me at all. I know she has no reason to love me but I have extended the hand of friendship and been rebuffed. Why should I help her now?"

"Because she has no reason to trust you my queen. I have tried to council her, and she is still coming to the idea of reconcile, but she needs time."

"Tell her that I am prepared to consider the matter but I would require a sign of good faith on her part. I don't want to be used, Arya."

"I don't understand my queen, having the Queen Morgan away would give you and the king and the new heir a better chance to be together. We all benefit from this small excursion."
