Patrek closed his eyes for a moment, 'You bastard Garrett, will I ever step out of your shadow' he thought. He turned to Lady Sara, his eyes slightly misty, "I will..." he struggled to say. "I will do my best to keep her safe".

"Thank you," Lady Sara said, her voice growing more gentle. "The queen's guard will not be enough to protect her from malicious tongues. We will welcome your protection."

Patrek sigh and adds softly, "Let us hope she does not try to kill a dragon".
"What will become of Casterly's Rock, now?"

Sara paused in her pacing. "There are Cedric and Clive, Jeyne's twin uncles. Cedric was always the clever one, as clever as Elena. Those two inherited Baldwin's mind. Benedicta was always the scheming sister, all low cunning with no real intelligence. Clive is a brainless halfwit, much like that oaf Randal Lannister."
There was a bite in her tone. Sara had reason to loathe Randal Lannister. He had publicly accused her of adultery and threatened her and Jeyne harm, until Sara's brother Rhodri Arryn had intervened to protect her and put Randal on trial for slander.

Patrek nods, "I am afraid duty calls, but if there is anything that comes up you just have to ask and I will see what I can do".

Sara took his hand and smiled. "Your chivalry and kindness will not go unforgotten, Ser Patrek." She inclined her head briefly, and then swept out of the salon into the antechamber, where Jeyne and her ladies were cooing over their new guard dogs and introducing them to the westerland dogs.

Patrek walked out of the salon, gave a bow to the ladies and a smile to the one who seemed shy, Lady Lorch and resumed his duties in the Red Keep.

Jeyne and her ladies looked up as Lady Sara Lannister brought two slim young girls into the chambers, a hand on each girl's shoulder.
"My daughter, you will have two new companions," Lady Sara said with a smile. "This is Lady Rhae Rykker," she indicated the golden-haired girl, who smiled and curtseyed demurely. "the betrothed of your cousin, Lord Brynden. And this is Marina Waters," she indicated the other girl, who curtseyed gracefully. Both were delicately pretty, and tastefully dressed. "She is the adopted daughter of Lady Aerie Falgrave, the King's Justice."
Jeyne looked up and smiled in welcome. The guard dogs, with their jeweled collars glinting, came up to sniff the two new people.
"I am delighted to have the daughters of Lady Royce and Lady Falgrave," Jeyne said pleasantly, though some of her ladies-in-waiting looked rather less pleased. Lady Gwenara in particular seemed to be appalled that a bastard was to be in the future Queen's company, and Lady Alanna look Rhae over with a cool, unfriendly eye.

The door opened again, and Ser Mychel Lannister stepped into the room, his white cloak streaming behind him. He stopped, surprised to see half a dozen young girls in the company of the Lady of Casterly Rock. "My ladies," he said smoothly, with a smile. "Lord Benfry instructed me to guard the queen, I had not thought I would be so lucky as to meet her beautiful ladies-in-waiting as well." He flashed the smile that had charmed so many young girls out of their maidenheads in his youth.
"Lady Sara, it is a pleasure to see you again." He had met the Lady before, on one of his visits to Casterly Rock, although more than a decade ago. It nagged at the back of his mind, that she was of the Vale and yet she ruled Casterly Rock, but his minute claim to the seat had been abandoned the moment he donned the white cloak.

"Well met, ser," Lady Sara said, noticing the girls' eyes on the white knight. Ser Mychel was no longer a young man, but still a handsome one. Let's hope he can guard my daughter too, she thought.
"I know I will be well protected with you by my side, ser," Jeyne smiled charmingly at her older kinsman.
Rhae and Marina had settled in, quite impervious to some of the hostile glances.

Marina curtseyed delicately along with Rhae, somehow managing to conceal her inward excitement. To be in the presence of such distinguished company still seemed unbelieveable, especially when she reluctantly recalled her less than opulent youth. Donning a polite smile, she shot Rhae a furitive glance before allowing her eyes to rove the other girls. Her enthusiasm was dampened, however, when she recognized the expressions on their faces, the condescending looks and malicious stares. She was no fool when it came to noticing how others felt, and it was now she realized this might not entirely be the fantasy she had imagined.
The entrace of a white-cloaked man, though, rung these thoughts out of her mind. Simply seeing a knight enshrouded in such glowing white took her breath away, and she made sure to keep her back straight and head high. She thought her heart might pound out of her chest.

"Come and sit," Jeyne gestured to the elegant chairs, her smile and voice friendly. "We were just talking about our favorite knights in the tourney tomorrow."
Rhae had also noticed the jealous, cold stares, and smiled all the more sweetly, greeting the Kingsguard knight gracefully. Her eyes were also dazzled at the sight of him, cloaked in ivory and chivalry and glory.
She glowed at Jeyne's words and took Marina's hand, walking to the chairs. "I like the Knight of Ninestars," she said shyly. "I hear he's supposed to be one of the defending champions. And I wish Ser Marq Tyrell was participating."
"Ser Marq?" Alanna scoffed. "Isn't he a drunkard, or something?"
"Of course not," Jeyne said, before Rhae could reply. "He must be lovely."

"I believe my sworn brother will be among the champions, Ser Galwyn of the Stormlands. He will undoubtedly perform admirably championing you, my lady. I had thought to ride myself, but I fear I am not as skilled with the lance as the rest of my Sworn Brothers. I would not wish to do dishonor to the Kingsguard," Ser Mychel said.

"There is no dishonor in trying," Jeyne said with a smile. "But it is fine, you may watch the joust with me, ser, and we can cheer your brothers and my uncles on together."

"I would be honored to do so, your grace, and I am sure our cheers shall spur them to great success," he said, still smiling. His smile faded, however, and he spoke agian. "I trust that Ser Patrek told you about the new security measures in the Red Keep? I mislike to be so constrictive guarding you and yours," he said half to Jeyne and half to Lady Sara, "but if it will better protect you, we must all make our sacrifices. You are my blood as well as my queen, your grace, and no harm shall come to you while I live."
