Ser Aaron came to his father's quarters at the Bloody Gate, nodding respectfully to the knight who was leaving the solar. "It seems Selwyn is bound by his commitment; for better or worse he is the most honorable man I know, other than you of course," he added, giving his father a remnant of the impish grin that he wore for most of his childhood.
"I find myself getting right antsy just sitting around, waiting to see whether his grace's dragonqueen will be accepted by the rest of the realm," he said, his grin shifting into a frown. "It seems like Westeros is crumbling to pieces beneath her rule and she has not yet set foot in King's Landing. My question, however, turns toward Duskendale. It is your dominion, after all, and I think we should at least find out what cult presence is there, or else we should move to secure it."

Brynden nodded, "You wish to investigate? That is prudent. Send a force down, and keep your eyes open."

"Aye, father, it will be done."

Brynden nodded, "Anything else?"

"I'll take three hundred men, though before I leave I would like to speak with Armand, if he's amenable. I confess I have not seen him since I arrived back south." Aaron said.

Rowan Trant rides with three other men and a young woman, as the group approaches the monstrous gate he slows his horse. "I am Lord Trant of Gallowsgrey, I am here to speak to Lord Royce on behalf of the Queen."

The gigantic gates creak open just wide enough for two men to pass through abreast, and Aaron Royce rides out flanked by four knights. Heartsbane hangs on his back, and he is armored in boiled leather and burnished bronze chainmail. Archers line the fortresses walls, arrows knocked but bows undrawn.
"Lord Royce is incarcerated in the Red Keep, Lord Trant," Aaron said icily. "If you are here to speak on behalf of her grace, I would have assumed you to know that little fact."

Rowan's mount shyed away slightly as Aaron rode out.
"I am afraid that is not the case," Rowan said his heart breaking at having to deliver the news. "Your Father, along with Lord Frey and King Selwyn were murdered by the Queen's sister Princess Liliyanna. I am very sorry for your loss, your Father was a great man." Rowan said remembering his own ride with the elder Royce.
"You were given incorrect information because with the Queen and Hand away, there was confusion by what should have been done. Princess Liliyanna admitted her wrong doing and the Queen is prepared to ensure that justice is done."

Aaron's mouth opened, and for the first time in his life he found himself completely at a loss for words. He closed his mouth and opened it again, trying to speak, but nothing came and some part of his mind registered that he must look something like a fish trying to breathe out of water.
"Murdered... by the Princess?" he repeated, finally. He turned in his saddle, fixing his glare on the four knights of his guard. "Inside, now," he snapped, and the four men looked to one another uncertainly, before turning and galloping back inside the Bloody Gate.
"Why?"

Rowan followed closely behind Aaron a month earlier during the horse race he had wished he had rode this close to the man although with the recent news he felt uncomfortable now.
"Princess Liliyanna wanted the three as offerings to hatch her Dragons, the Queen explicitly forbid it. . .but with the Queen and Hand out of the city she saw a chance to force her will and thus ordered your Father arrested and brought before her."

Aaron knew little about dragonlore, though a memory tugged on the back of his mind; stories of Targaryen Kings burning men alive to hatch their dragons. His fists clenched of their own accord, so tightly that his knuckles cracked.
"He was burned alive," he said. The young lord of the Vale choked on the words, and it was unclear if he was asking, or stating a fact.

"I don't know," Rowan said. "I was never told what happened only that was her goal," it was obvious to Aaron that Trant knew even less of Dragon Lore then he did.

"And the Queen's 'Justice' that is prepared to be done? I cannot imagine what she could want more than a trio of dragons; her grace will probably reward her sister with a castle for her troubles," he said with an ugly grimace.

Rowan scowled, "I'd not repeat that when you respond to her summons," Rowan said carefully, "her husband, and both the Hand's Brother and Uncle died as well. No the Princess's fate is sealed the question now is what will become of you and your kin?"
