Shah sighs as well, "Alright. I'll leave you to your work. Sorry for interrupting. She must have you working like a mule, it's easier getting an audience with her than with you." She tried to smile but only smirked lightly.

Ariel chuckled at Shahrizai. "You're here now, aren't you?" she asked. "My tired head could use the chance for a break, even if I wasn't the one who called it. Do stay; I have some finely-aged snakewine in the back."

"Well...alright, if you wish princess. I don't fancy the return of Ser Maekar once again. I do like that Dyther Morrigen man though, he is an interesting character, have you heard of him?" She was happy to settle into some idle talk.

Ariel blinked. "You mean the one who offended the Queen with his singing?" she asked. "Bold enough chap." She clapped for the wine, then smiled. "Maekar is just a foolish lech, you know, a man who says he loves every woman and means every word he says. If you were still in the profession you could empty his wealth into your pockets without ever opening your bed, I imagine."

"I think so, perhaps Lord Tyberion as well. In another time maybe." She waited with hands folded in her lap for the wine to come. "You would be amused to hear what Dyther has to say about becoming free and realising the Goddess in your own self. IT sounded like he spoke of you almost, before you became chained to a desk of course." She smiled. "He also warned me about Tyberion."

Ariel laughed. "A Maekar with more finesse. But to be honest, most men are like that in their hearts. And over half of women too. We humans are a hopeless race sometimes." She sighed.
"Maybe when I can live for myself without leaving my cousin in the lurch, I will. But I gave my word to uphold her rule, and uphold it I will."

"Yes, that is noble, honourable." She rolled her hand. "I think it will only get harder from here on. Of course I stand to gain much if Queen Rhaenys succeeds on to King's Landing. I hope she will heed your counsel, she's had some terrible advisers so far, I wonder if any of those men had ever been educated."

Ariel chuckled and shook her head. "I imagine many of them can barely read. Too busy being big, strong men who can cut down Others and bed whatever women they can find. Selwyn at least has a good head on his shoulders, though I can't say the same for some of Rhaenys' lords." She scooted her cushion a bit closer as the wine bottle arrived, along with two glasses, and Ariel filled both with the liquid.
"Careful with drinking it. The wine has a sharp taste if you're not ready for it."

"Okay." She swirled the wine in her cup, "That was essentially Maekar's argument to me. Though he forgets I did fight the Other's on occasion. I suppose that gives me right to claim man or woman as my own too." She smells the bouqet before tasting it. Shah lets the wine sit in her mouth for a moment before taking a swallow. She shivers as it goes down. "Interesting." She looks into her cup with interest. "Have you fought Princess?"

Ariel nodded. "Aye, and twice at that. Once at Storm's End, when the cultists left the Queen Selyse dead and Selwyn as you see him, it was myself and the other ladies-in-waiting who got Prince Eustace and Princess Aranya to safety, then saved Selwyn from one last assassin. And then in the Last Battle...the Others made it through to the healers' tents, and I had to cast them back with fire and dragonglass."
She shivered. "It's never as much fun as the knights like to boast."

"No it isn't." She recalled the faces of her men who were slain. "I would not wish to repeat any of those fights ever again. They've haunted me for a long time and I only wish that I can make those men that sacrificed themselves for me proud." She took another drink of wine, "And what is this lady in waiting?"

Ariel smiled. "A young noblewoman in the service of a greater; in my case the Queen. We serve as spinners and handmaidens while seeking husbands. Though I never did manage to find one before the Cult's attack, and after that..." She chuckled.
"Gods, it seems like years since I've had a chance to lie with anyone."

"So you train to please men or be better wives? Hmm." She smiles. "Reminds me of what I went through when I was a child. And you mean lie with someone and not just sleep with them? I shared my bed with my maid, but it did not go further than sharing warmth in the cruel cold. Though it has been years for me as well. You'll seek a husband after the war correct? All this death has even made me consider marriage, or at least having a child of my own."

Ariel nodded. "Well, we don't train in the arts of pleasure. You may not believe this, but a woman in most of the Kingdoms is expected to be an unschooled virgin on her wedding night." She chuckled lightly. "Of course, the real rule is not to avoid bedplay, but more to not get caught."
She considered. "Probably, once I have lands of my own that will need an heir. Rhaenys has made it clear that she doesn't want me marrying anyone of great importance who might restart the succession crisis. Though since I don't personally need a marriage alliance..." She grinned. "I might just go unmarried, bear a dozen bastards to as many men, and have my cousin legitimate them."

"Unschooled just doesn't sound fun nor pleasurable to either party." She shakes her head. "But you seem to have a sound plan, to bear children from strong men and raise a small army of kin," she chuckled. "I wonder if there is truely a brave knight who would come to Myr with me and take my name. Though, I may be too old to bear a child once this war is over, if it ever finishes. It's dragging on forever. It's the small moments like these that will tide me over throughout all the loneliness of sitting around, waiting for it to come to a conclusion." She mused over a sip from her wine cup and nestled her backside into the cushion.
