The camp of the Targaryens lies just outside Winterfell's walls, not very far from the main gate. Built to house 200 men, the camp is well organised with rows of tents spaced out evenly and surrounded by a makeshift barrier of sharpened stakes and a small ditch filled with caltrops. A narrow entrance to the camp is guarded by sentries and the perimeter is patrolled day and night by Aegon's men. Aegon has standing orders that other than the Queen, her three sisters or her Hand, no visitor to the camp is permitted entrance without his express permission. Aegon's men are in a permanent state of readiness, with drills and other military exercises being carried out daily. Aegon himself often leads them.
In the centre of the camp is Aegon's command tent. The tent flies the 'Lone Dragon' standard - a single headed red dragon on black.

The queen arrives, acompanied by a few guards. Maekar Blackfyre is not, for once, within sight.

Aegon welcomes the queen and escorts her to his command tent.

They'd last spoken in anger so Rhaenys was wary but she kept her expression neutral.
"How are you, cousin? And our men? Are they doing well?"

"Very well I believe." Aegon replied, his expression also neutral.
"They are well drilled and in a constant state of readiness should they be called upon."

Rhaenys nodded. Although relations between them were strained, she had no reason to disbelieve Aegon's view of the Targaryen men.
"Good. I should like to inspect them, and see for myself. First, though, I wanted to speak with my cousin. I would close the distance between us. Is there anything you need, Aegon?"

Aegon looked mildly surprised.
"I wasn't aware of any extra distance between us Rhaenys. Certainly I understand you have not been exactly happy with any recent advice I have offered. I hope you understand it is offered from the heart and always with the good of House Targaryen in mind."
"However I ask you to forgive my bluntness. I sometimes forget I am not in the field, when I am speaking with you.
He sighed.
"What do I need? More men for one. I fear we are under-resourced for an assault to take the lands south of the Neck."

"Very likely," Rhaenys sighed. "Too many good men died beyond the Wall. Unfortunately, that is not something easily resolved. Selwyn and his close followers might know where we can recruit others to our cause, depending on where there are castles and holdfasts not in the hands of the Cult, but I have no men to give you. Would that I could."
She sighed again and looked him up and down.
"I know that you meant to think of House Targaryen when we quarrelled. Our disagreements vex me but I am thankful that you are loyal. When I asked if there was anything you need I meant you, personally, not the campaign itself. We all need more men, Aegon."

Aegon gave Rhaenys a quizzical look.
"My needs and wants are two different things Rhaenys. I personally don't needanything. What I want though is a position, and title worthy of my kinship to the Queen and my birth as a royal Targaryen. I hope that you will grant me such when the right time comes."

She smiled at him.
"Perhaps I have something in mind for you already, but it will require you to do exactly as I say."

The quizzical look remained on Aegon's face. "Go on."

"Have you ever been to Dorne, cousin?"

Aegon nodded.
"Many times.
"If you'll recall it was my ships that brought your mother and yourself and your sisters to Dorne."

She shrugged.
"I did recall that. I merely wondered if you were familiar with Dorne from before. You've travelled so much and I so little. Did you enjoy your visits to Dorne, not counting when we brought our ships here to take the kingdom?"

"Unfortunately I found Dorne to be full of sand and snakes. Not all of the snakes were without legs."
