Aegon assembled the men.
"Men, I regret to inform you that Rhaenys has dispensed with my services as your commander for no better reason than I will not marry as she bids me. Maekar Blackfyre, the Queen's cousin...a man with no battle experience at all or command ability....will be your new commander. This decision by the queen comes just as we are about to move south and enter battle against the enemy.
Hence I will be leaving here to take service with some other Great Lord. Those who wish to follow me as my personal followers may come with me. Otherwise I wish you all good luck."

Maekar was watching from the shadows.
"Thank you, Lord Aegon, for that most moving speech," he said sarcastically. "But I regret to inform you that you may not take any men with you except those who were yours to begin with. The rest are sworn to House Targaryen and that means to Her Grace the Queen. They will stay with me. I would advise you to stay and win back the Queen's favour."

(OOC: How could Maekar be here? He did not arrive with Rhaenys and I had standing orders that no others were to be admitted to camp without my express permission)
Aegon continued at the murmurings of shock and surprise.
"Men....comrades in arms!..you have fought under me and with me at Saella's Fall and before this for three years. You know my worth and reputation as a soldier...a fighter...and a commander of men.
"I have treated you generously and justly as soldiers should be. I am still sworn to House Targaryen...indeed I am Targaryen, pure born on all sides! Those who wish to remain under my command and yet still fight for the Targaryen cause...against our enemies to the south, I ask you to ride with me now. If you wish to stay and be commanded by the likes of Maekar Blackfyre... then so be it."
Aegon mounted his horse, followed by his squire, Aerys Velaryon and Maekar Velaryon. The Lone Dragon Targaryen banner of red on black was hoisted by Maekar Velaryon, billowing out in the breeze.

A few of the men immediately strode to their horses and made ready to ride out with Aegon, who welcomed them with a smile and a clap on the back.
Aegon saluted the remaining men, turned his horse and rode out with his followers trailing him.
Later others of his former command had slipped out and joined his forces. By the next morning Aegon had thirty men under his command. It was a start he remarked to Aerys.
The Dragon Prince then moved his camp to a secluded spot and began sending out messengers far and wide.

Maekar, fuming, sent word to Rhaenys, and together the two of them set things in motion to deal with Aegon's rash behaviour.
