"The Cult and its followers. They will fight without mercy and to the death. They will ambush us, sow dissension in our ranks and assassinate those leaders they can. They will threaten hostages, and be more than willing to execute them." Talyn says, rattling off his worries like a laundry list. "In many ways, I expect them to be worse than the Others."

"Sounds like a treat!" Corwyn replies in good humor. "In all earnestness, it seems we will have to act very carefully. Perhaps use their own methods to strike at them from the shadows, as they would do to us." He set his empty cup down and searched for another. "And of course protecting all those pretty lordlings."

Maekar stalked over to Euric. The look he gave Ariel was more unfriendly than ever.
"Now I thought you knew better than my impetuous kin over there," he muttered.

"Maekar, you are the cousin to Queen Rhaenys and should act as such. Shoving a singer about the room is not the way she would wish you to behave." He was calm anger now. "I, as she, would advise you to sit down, eat and remain quiet."

"Despite the popularity of the saying, I am not sure you can fight fire with fire. We may be better suited with a single sweeping flood, that quenches all their little sparks at once." Talyn says, although his smile is grim, and not good-humored. "Either way, it will not be a pretty thing."

Saenarys decided to leave. The Feast was growing tiresome. He nodded to Red Tom, and the two shuffled out.

"It hasn't been pretty so far and I don't think any of us believe this will be easy." Corwyn replied with a shrug. "Ser Talyn... I have a question; would you call me queer if I told you I have greensight?"

"I have heard queerer things and been unable to dismiss them. Had someone told me five years ago that Dragons would sail over my head, I'd have called them a fool and a liar. But I would question why you tell me this," Talyn said warily.

Corwyn's smile withered. "I've seen something that might involve the cult. What you told me about them just now seemed like the very exact thing they might do. It is not literal but..." He whispered his dream to Talyn.

Maekar frowned.
"I still think it an affront to a new queen. A song like that would not matter if we had a male ruler but a woman...I don't know, Euric, things are different. I worry about Rhaenys, that men will take advantage of her if we do not make it clear that she has men like us to defend her."

"By acting like drunk fools at a feast that is meant to celebrate our victory over the Other's?" Euric asked, his eyes wide with disbelief.

He whispered his dream to Talyn. Talyn thought back to that night, when he'd crept into his father's study, and the things he'd seen there. "I cannot say that it is impossible. I know very little of what the Cult can do..." Talyn admitted, "But if they possess even one-tenth of the power of the Others, I should think such a deed is not beyond them. What was the setting of this dream of yours, where did these acts take place?"

"I wish I could say but the dream was very obscure... however, if I had to guess it would have been at a battle. I saw them die and drop to the ground."

"I see, " the sellsword captain said, "Precautions should be taken, sooner rather than later. I will take steps, at least among my own men. I thank you for this warning ser."

"Anything to hold this rabble together." Corwyn answered with a renewed smile. "We may have to start keeping an exact tally of whom we lose from now on."
