"I was wondering about the preparations for the march, I know Tallbody has the scouts ahorse and ranging ahead, but who has the command of the van now that Wagstaff is dead? We could run into some stubborn resistance if we cross a Wildlings village or something worse."

Mills chuckles, "You want it then." He yawned and bit into a hard loaf of bread. "What would you do if we did stumble into a village of wildlings?"

"Depends how they respond," Talyn said, "They're liable to still be turned upside down from the Others, same as the rest of us. Their reaction would be unpredictable. So first I'd establish a blocking force to prevent them from coming upon the rest of the column unprotected, than send a runner to inform Lord Selwyn so he can make a decision."

"Leaving the majority of the blocking force in place, wheel a suitable detachment about, and move to intercept them before they reach the main column. If they give battle, than defeat them and if I don't have enough men to do that, than harry them, until the main column can ready its defense."

"Thank you milord. In truth I'm just anxious to get the hell out of here, and if being in the van means I get to leave a few hours earlier than everyone else, than thank the Seven," Talyn says with a grin.

"Yes ser," Talyn said anxious to be one of the first men to step foot south of the wall in three years, "I'll go now and get the men up and ready to move." Talyn bowed his head, and hustled off before anyone changed their mind.
