"I'm tough enough," Lucas says, a hint of a challenge in his voice, "Don't say I'm not."

"Oh, you may be plenty tough, Master Lucas," he said, with a hint of mock gravity. "It is simply that there are those who are tougher."

Lucas frowns. "But I'll never get stronger if I don't try. Isn't that what you taught me?"

"Strength comes from training, practice, and learning. After his father died, had Lord Gariss been left to his own accord to rule the North, what shape would be in now? I was there to teach him, to train him to being a strong lord, he would have floundered, and been all the weaker for it. Do you understand, Lucas?"

"But Gariss is the lord of the North, now. How do you know when you're ready?" Lucas asks.

"When your teacher says you're ready," the crannogman said, with an air of finality.

Lucas' brow furrows, and he does not reply.

"I shall have to visit Skyreach then, Lord Fowler, when time permits. We don't have mountains in the Riverlands, and the mountains of the Vale sure don't compare up to what you speak of." Pieter said smiling. "You would be welcome to do so Lord Tully. It has been a long time since Skyreach hosted someone from outside Dorne. I do hope you're not as troublesome as the mandermen were though" he smiled for a moment "As for the Vale, I really could not say as to their mountains. At least ours do not thrive with bandits and murderers however. Though I confess I have never been to it. The valemen always were an insular people, and became more so when their Lord was locked up. Have you had the opportunity to speak with Lord Royce about his incarceration? I've known armed rebels who have been accorded more mercy than he was shown so I admit to being curious as to the nature of his crime..." he raised an eyebrow at Pieter in curiosity

Pieter looked at Wencel and thought about what he said. "Whatever Lord Royce has done is not known. My only guess..." Pieter said, looking around and lowering is voice. "Is that it lead to Rickon's Abdication. Why he would be thrown in the dungeon for it, I know not." Pieter stated, raising his voice a little more.
"There are some things that may always remain secrets."

"True, but as Master of Laws I thought that was one you may have been privy to" Wencel grinned "It does not matter much in truth. Perhaps Rodrick just locked him up for being a sanctimonious bore. It certainly encourages Lord Dondarrion to perform well, as a former Hand is rotting in jail for displeasing a...what some would say was a 'kinder' King, though I dare say Lord Roland would dispute that" he smiled in amusement.
"So who do you think will do well in this tourney then? I confess to being surprised that not many of Rodrick's favourites have joined yet, or the King himself. He strikes me as the sort to take part. One of the many reasons I will not, save for a spot of archery and that is more to keep boredom at bay for the most part. How about a small wager for the Joust, Lord Tully? We shall see who else signs up of course, but I feel that it will belong to one of the Twelve. I may even plump for a countryman such as the Panther for the laurels"

Loren Irwyn, and his men Ser Baxter and Ser Montague are talking and laughing as they walk through the fair. They aren't paying much attention though and Ser Baxter almost bumps into Robb Waters of the Dornish delegation. "Pardon me," he says before looking up and seeing the Fowler entourage.
Loren gives a careful nod to Lord Fowler and Lord Tully, "Good Day Gentleman," he says with a smile, "beautiful weather for the fair is it not?"

Robb glowers angrily at the near impact and looks to make more of the matter before Wencel lays a calming hand on his shoulder and moves him away from the group of men "Greetings Lord....ah" he pauses for a moment and forces a smile onto his face "Hello gentlemen. Yes, it is a fine day is it not? And who might you be?" he asks innocently

"I am, Loren Irwyn of Uplands and these are my retainers Ser Baxter and Ser Montague. . ." Loren paused, "and unless my sight fails me you wear the colors of House Fowler of Sky Reach?," he says to Wencel.

Wencel smiled thinly "Yes indeed, I am Lord Fowler and your father killed my uncle, amongst many others. I do hope you're not here to carry on the family tradition?" his hand drifted towards his own swordhilt

"Lord Wencel, I would remind you that Alexander Irwyn did not begin the war in which your uncle was killed," Ser Mychel said. He had seen the possible danger of an Irwyn and Fowler getting too close close, and had begun striding over to them when he noticed a reachman walk into one of Fowler's subordinates. "And this is hardly the place to resurrect old hatreds," he added.
