"Asshai..." Darien had read much of this mysterious place and the things associated with it. "That doesn't broach the best of things. Who knows what other things they could send at us... what magics they may have at their disposal."

Brandon frowned, "That's true, an inn at Lannisport suddenly caught fire. A boy screamed something, just before it caught fire".

Concern was etched on Darien's face. "That's dreadful... could you hear what he screamed? What else did you encounter at Lannisport?"

"He was burnt alive, that's what he screamed anyway," Brandon said paling a bit. "We didn't encounter anything other than some foreigners we managed to ambush".

"Burned alive. We really need to put an end to this invasion. With their force marching on King's Landing... god, I hope Brynden got out of there. He is too young to follow his... his mother." Feeling somewhat emotional, Darien turned away for a moment before composing himself. "Sorry about that, Brandon. Let us hope this will soon be over."

Brandon nodded and spoke solemnly, "It will end soon I think... one way or another, let us hope it will be favorable"

"Let us hope for the best." Finally remembering something, he put his hand into one of his pockets and retrieved a copy of Aranya's will he had made. "Here is my sisters will if you'd like to read it."

Brandon read through the will and chuckled at the part regarding the Sealord. He handed the will back to Darien. "It's nearly time to march, some training before we leave?" Brandon said not mentioning that the training might put his mind at other things than Aranya.

Darien nodded as he took back the parchment. "A little spar won't hurt. After that I'll have to go pick up Brynden's sword." That was one thing he was not looking forward to.

Brandon looked down at the floor and sighed, "Aye" he said and began walking to the training yard.

Darien followed his cousin to the yard.

Danwell shook his head in tired amusement at Verden's eagerness, which seemed undiminished despite the vast horde of corpses surrounding them. "We survived. That's the important thing, Ser Verden. Anything in addition to that is welcome, but not essential. I'm not sure where Max is. I thought he was with you & the other archers, but when the invaders broke through the Mander lines it all became a bit confused. I'll go look for him" he stretched his back and rubbed his red-rimmed eyes. "If you're feeling so energetic, perhaps you could assist the men on burial detail Ser Verden" he said, pointing at the westermen and servants carrying the bodies to a cart, ready for a mass pyre. "If nothing else, you can see if you can spot those with your arrows in and retrieve them" he continued sourly as he limped off to find Maxwell Hill and the rest of his 'dozen' Patrek followed Danwell as he made his round. "What do we do now?" Patrek asked.

Danwell scratched his chin. He was clean shaven now and refreshed from a bath and some sleep in a real bed for the first time in what felt like weeks. "Hmm, seems like wherever we go, it doesn't seem to make much difference. I don't like that" he frowned "By the Seven, I'll make these fuckers remember us, the ones who live anyway. I'm of a mind to see about getting rid of their ride home. Maybe these bastards won't fight so hard when they hear their transport back to whichever hell spawned them is gone. Last I heard, their fleet was up at Seaguard with most of their army and ironborn allies further south, leaving them relatively unguarded. Of course "relatively" still means we'll be considerably outnumbered. You up for a challenge, Pat?" he said with a slight smile

Patrek scratched his chin, "Well, I figure they will fight even harder when all their ways back to their land is lost. But why the hell not, can not let you have all the fun, Dan."
