"With due respect this is preposterous. If this woman knew anything about security, my wife would still be alive. You can have my axe when you pry it from my cold dead fingers. I'm not going anywhere where I can't ultimately defend myself. Nobody carrying arms? At a tourney? You're insane." Coldiron snorted.

"You are attempting to shut the doors to the hen yard, after the chickens have left the roost." Elena said smoothly. "I agree we must guard the kitchens. But our adversaries are going to assume we will. We must look at these ceremonies with open eyes and judge where we are must vulernable now, not then."

Elena glared at Aranya, "First it was ridicoulous to have our itinerary written in ink. We should move events about at the last moment to surprise our adversaries. Second do not let the King go to any event in a location we can not completely control. I hear the Iron born are having a celebration at the docks." She paused and eyed Aranya with distaste, "Third perhaps some one should be placed in charge of sercutiy, and given complete control of the events over the social planners. The King's life should not be risked for mere pomp."

"Not one of us. We are all too busy, and this should be a full time position. I think the Lord Commander should pick the position." Elena replied.

"If his grace is hidden away, he'll be mocked as afraid to go to his own wedding, that gives a win to Horas, or Martell, or whoever it is we're afraid of, without them needing to do anything. You've got the Kingsguard, the King's Men, and the Goldcloaks. More than 2,000 men in all. If they can't ensure his security in his own capital, than we've got bigger problems that a random schedule and a few dogs can't solve." Coldiron said, crossing his arms over his chest.

"That point wasn't aimed at you Lady Royce."

Elena rolled her eyes, "I agree Lord Coldiron, in most cases, but to say there is no exceptions would be a foolish stance."

"Ser Danwell has spoken highly of Ser Patrek Redfort to me in recent weeks. In truth he may be ready for a command of his own but if he has the potential, I believe he would do a fine job as commander of the King's security arrangements. Ser Danwell can continue as commander of the King's Men"
"In so far as the other comments so far, I do not believe it is feasible or desireable to disarm all of the knights & nobles of the realm. Firstly, it speaks little of our trust and respect for their position, to have to treat them all like potential traitors. I do not doubt that there may be one or two in their ranks, but by alienating all of them, we risk increasing, rather than reducing their number. The men under arms we have should be sufficient for all but a large scale assault and, should that happen, I would rather our guests were armed to help us repel it! I still think that poisoning remains a high risk, depsite the fact they have done it twice before. It is one way to strike nearly undetected and without great risk to themselves"

Roland nodded. "I agree with Lord Commander Benfry on all accounts. Regarding the poisoning, it would seem we'll need, at the least, a taster for the King and Queen each?"

Benfry nodded "I am sure of that. I eat plainly however. Hard to poison a loaf of bread or a slice of cheese, without notice. But not impossible, so I will abide by the same restrictions as the King" he said with a wry smile.

"We'd best hire food tasters with a healthy appetite it seems. They'll be as round as winecasks by the end of the event I think" he says with a grin

Roland chuckled good-naturedly in what had become a rare display of mirth.

"These are the most dangerous of events. Perhaps we should cancel, or rearrange their location." said Elena.
"It's not like there aren't brigands in the Kingswood even on a good day." said Coldiron. 'Let's load it up with Godcloaks, the more the merrier, and surround the King himself with the Kingsguard as whatever King's Men Regent Benfry has lying around."

"We can switch locations but, so far as the hunt goes, the Kingswood is the only place it can be held. So long as the Kingsguard and King's Men accompany the royal couple I am confident we can keep them safe" Benfry said, fingering the hilt of his sword

Roland nodded in agreement with the King's Regent.
