Horas Blackwood finally arrives at the Eyrie. Sudden storms, treacherous paths, and a flaring up of a fever had conspired to keep him away. He enters with no guards, as per the Lord Regent's request, and waits in the designated room, hands folded calmly, for Piers Bettley to arrive.

Horas is summoned to the Throne's Room. Many are seated in the seats facing the throne. Piers does not sit in the throne, but in a chair set in front of it. A small table is set in front of him, and he has his boots tossed casually up on top of it. He plays with a large plum and stares at Lord Horas. He is flanked by two of the White Cloaks.
King Rickon sits silently in the Throne behind the regent. His earnest little eyes staring at Horas with wonder and dread.

"Your grace," Horas says, bowing formally and precisely to the young king. He turns to Piers Bettley next.
"Lord Regent," he says simply, "You summoned, and I have arrived."

"Lord Horas I awoke from my most grevious injury to be told by close friends and advisers that you tried to have me killed. What do you say to that?" Piers asks.

Horas thought of saying several things, but he was well aware of the spectators. It would not do to say certain things in public.
"You have been informed falsely, my Lord," Horas says, his voice no louder than necessary. "I did not try to have you killed, though it appears as if someone is trying their best to make me look guilty."

"My knowledge of the event is still foggy. Please Horas, fill me in on the detials?" Piers throws up the plumm and catches it.

"You really should speak to the Lords Varner and Falgrave. Each seems to have several compelling reasons to believe I am innocent," Horas says.
"Though I shall do my best to give you a brief version of events. I was still in the Westerlands, conducting the trial of Erik Coldiron, when I heard the news. Apparently there were assassins within the walls. Several of my agents were slain in the attack, though elements of my network seem to have been involved, as well. Traitors bribed by some third party of which I have not yet determined. I decided that I was obligated to finish my duties in the West before returning to King's Landing. I did, and returned upon their conclusion. Shortly after, you summoned me to the Eyrie."

Piers shifted forward placing his feet on the ground, "Whose men patrol those paths through the walls Horas. As far as I know only the two of us know of their exsistance?" He takes a bite from his plum, tearing the fruit near in half.

"I cannot say who else knew, Lord Bettley. Perhaps they did not know in advance. Hence the hasty pile of bodies that were bound to be found."

Piers leans back again flashing his smile, "What bodies Horas you seem to be aw...."
Rickon leans forward and says, "Lord Piers please."
Piers glances behind himself to look at his king, and boys. When he turns around and the King can not see there is a large smile on his face.
The King looks at Horas and asks, "As my Hand, what would you advise us to do Lord Horas?"

"My king," Horas says, bowing again.
"I understand Lord Bettley's fear and subsequent flight to the Eyrie, but I think it was unwise. You are a king and he is your regent. Both of you must return to King's Landing and your throne, to rule. I would also ask for some semblence of trust to return between us," Horas looks at Piers when he says that, "If you must have me investigated again, by all means do. But I believe the evidence will show you that I am innocent of this crime."

Piers nods, and then waves his hand. Most of the people sitting around the room leave the room. As they file out Piers says, "It was the quickest way to prove your innocence. I believe you Horas. But we can not leave yet. Have you heard of the crisis in the West?"

"Good," Horas says, though for the first time a flicker of irritation shows through in his voice, "And yes, I heard at the Gates. Though I see no reason that business cannot be conducted at King's Landing. To speak frankly, every day you spend holed up here makes you look weaker."

"Horas, some one stabbed me in my chambers in the Red Keep. Hiding in the Eyrie, hardly makes me look weaker. And if it was your life on the line, and you did not know if you could trust me. You would be hiding safetly in your Raventree hole." Piers snickers.

Horas' eyes are cold, and he does not appear amused by Piers' jibe. "And exactly what was your plan? Curl up safely in cousin Rhodri's summer retreat and watch as the realm falls apart around you? You might have had that luxury once, Piers, but you are the King Regent now. You are required to rule, and that requires you to be in the adminastrative center of our kingdom, dealing with the council and petitioners and preventing a war."
