The good Lord Fossoway is wanting us to side with the Reach, of course. I told him I'd have a word with you, Other, and then get back to him.
He brings up fair points. Combined, we have a huge navy, and a considerable army. And the King, of course. I like our odds.

Well, this is strictly with my Balor/Lord Harlaw hat - sorry, I know he's dead and I still feeling guilty that I'm essentially playing my own successor but here's how I see it from an ironborn point of view.
Yes, but we're being used in someone else's game and I hate being a pawn. They die first in chess. Personally, I think we have more to lose.
Currently we have: Virtual soveignty - when has Callen actually asked to to do anything/have we done anything? Bear Island - all the free lumber we'd ever want plus a fantastic northern base for our expanding fleet. Plus extra land means extra dudes. Ok, not ironborn but northmen are pretty hardy too
What could happen if we side with Fossoway and lose: We lose Bear Island plus shitloads of men and troops Lose any 'respect'/influence we may have had with the crown Open ourselves to hostage taking/occupation of Pyke/death of PCs
What could happen if we side with Fossoway and win: We gain our independance forever but lose a lot of men & ships doing so. The realm breaks down into smaller chunks (if the Reach goes free, the North probably will too - that means they'll be wanting Bear Island back) We could easily wind up in the Reach's sphere of influence instead. I know Fossoway would dispute this but if they gain their independance, the first thing they'll do is beef up their navy which would be to our detriment. Greyjoy worked hard to ensure he was the naval power on this side of Westeros. Plus Pyke works best as a semi-autonmous region, not fully. That was the mistake I made as Balor, trying to overreach myself and occupy the riverlands. It was never going to work without the Lannisters or Royces on my side - which wasn't likely.
If we do nothing or come in late against Fossoway: Callen Baratheon possibly dead - thumbs up We could nick some land from "traitors" - e.g. Shield Islands and keep it A potential naval rival is destroyed A free spot comes up as Master of Ships (currently Redwyne) so we could possibly order other ships to our needs - fancy the job? You'd be the one I would offer it too - Erik that is.
That's my current thinking. I see more benefit in raiding or remaining aloof. Our piddling 15,000 men are sailors, not soldiers and this will be an infantryman's fight. I can't see anyone using ships in any meaningful way.

I like your thinking. I let Fossoway know we'll be staying out for the moment.

I'd just stonewall him but I'm a bastard (at least when playing the ironborn) What's he gonna do - attack? Likely...NOT! ;D

It'll be tonight when the Smith gets on. It's a bit unfair to launch an attack and then roll for it as well I don't envisage much problem though. The troops have been massing at Highgarden and the Arbor fleet has been split up and already lost some ships. The ironborn have never attacked on masse like this before either. Balor usually split his forces and relied on their greater maneouverability. Harlaw is using them as a blunt hammer approach

Plus the Reach is a headless chicken at the moment.

That as well. Still nervous about Redwyne though. If we run into him, we'll bleed more than I'd like. Heh, sounding like Balor again. Still, Redwyne is good

Do they even know how good Redwyne is? They didn't use him against the Lannister fleet.

Ironically I think that was Fossoway's decision. Not sure why.

Redwyne apparently didn't want anything to do with the whole ordeal.

Is the Iron fleet still going to get some destruction in now that Francis, Tallahar et al have surrendered?
