Toothless Timmet stands atop the Wall, patrolling against the menacing threats in the far north. The menacing threats do not appear to be showing themselves tonight.
Toothless Timmet has every one of his teeth, which leads some to wonder about his name. He wanders over to the single other black brother who had been assigned to wander the walls tonight.
"Yer Rickard Evergreen, right?"

A sunken cheeked man arrived at Castle Black at mid-day. His mount was lathered and panting like a wounded beast, and from what the stable hand could tell, was visibly reveled to be rid of her rider. The smallish man was clad in black leathers and linens, and a great pale purple cape sewn with three black water lilies that engulfed his slender frame.
Running his hands through a shock of unruly brown hair, the man introduced himself as Yorlan Fenn and requested an audience with the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.

Lord Commander Jamie Bracken accepted the audience with the man in his solar.
The famed commander stood as the man entered.
"What can I do for you ser?"

The crannogman drops to his knee, the pale purple cape pooling around his feet.
"Milord Commander, I've come under the order of Master Olander of House Reed, by the command of Lord Roose Stark of Winterfell," he intoned before rising to his feet. The man met the eye of the lord commander, and looked like to blurt forth words, yet checked himself. With a breath of composure, and an absent minded hand straightening a ruffle in his greatcape, the Fenn spoke.
"As a son of the North, and as man of Westeros, I would ask of you to lend the aid of the Night's Watch in the defensive of the realm against these Basilisk invaders.

"Basi-what?" The man said, "get up man, I'm not the High Septon. What in seven hells are you talking about, invaders?"

The purple-caped Fenn's mouth dropped so far, so quickly, that it threatened to fall off his face. "Mi... Milord surely cannot mean that you..." he paused, trying every bit to summon an ounce of grace by taking a deep breath and running a hand through his hair.
"Milord Commander, you cannot mean to say that you have gotten no word of these foul invaders? Not a single raven, messenger, nor ship?"

"We don't concern ourselves with events below the gift Ser, and most don't bother to inform us about what's happening down there either. Now what the hell are you talking about?'

"Lannisport's been sacked!" he exclaimed, fighting to contain his youthful urgency. "Lannisport's been sacked... Casterly Rock too. Deep Den, Seagard, Golden Tooth, all under attack. They've sailed from the West."
Grinding his teeth, the young crannogman's words burst forth, "From the West! Tens and tens of thousands of men in huge black ships large enough to carry a garrison! Queer men with black masks who bear the standard of the green Basilisk!"

"Well, if they're queer, they shouldn't be much of a match for the Lion's of Lannister." Bracken said, a gruff kind of smirk on his face.
"That sounds well and truly dreadful, but what does that have to do with the Night's Watch?"

Struggling with some hidden inner emotion, the man withdrew a parchment. "No!" he cried. "... No. Milord. Look. His Grace has called all men to raise troops to defend the realm, to defend Westeros! These are no mere skirmishes, but an INVASION! An invasion of FOREIGN LEGIONS! ... For what other purpose does the Night's Watch stand than to protect Westeros?"

"We protect the realm of men, from those beyond. The Night Watch took no sides against the Targaryens, nor when Braavos invade Dragonstone. I served when the Night Watch last took an ill-advised interest in the affairs of Kingdom, and I will not see it happen again. The Night Watch's duty is the wall."

"And when the legions come for you, milord?" he asked with a desperateness. "What will you do when the realms of Westeros have fallen against this terrible foe, and they march on Castle Black, on Eastwatch, on the Shadow Tower. When then milord, when all your protect has fallen, and it is the Night's Watch that stands alone?"

"The Night's Watch Guards the Wall. That is our only duty. If we can pick and choose in which conflicts we intervene, than there shall be no end to our interference in the realm. No, we can not, I am sorry."

For a moment, it appeared as though the young Fenn would rally himself into another valiant effort, but with his deep breath came doubt, and the passion fled from his body as he exhaled. "I..." he started, unsure as of what to say.
"... I pray to the Old Gods that it will never come to what I have described," he managed, spun on his heel, and left.

A stringy-haired man-at-arms wearing the heraldry of House Hogg on a round oak shield over his back arrives at Castle Black to speak with the Lord Commander.
