Aranya, Selwyn and their retinue passed through the Gift, and saw Castle Black towering in the distance; and behind it rose the great Wall of ice. In truth, it had been visible to them for quite some time now. Aranya's eyes widened when she realized how large it was.

Four black brothers rode up to meet them, for they had seen Selwyn's banners.
"State your business."
"We must meet privately with the Lord Commander. I am an ambassador of the King," Aranya said.

The two of the guards glance at each other with frowns. "Ummm follow me then, I will lead you to the commander."
Falling out of rank he waves for them to follow, "I am Cort. Welcome to Castle Black." He leads them to the keep proper.

"Thanks," Aranya said impatiently. It was hard to take her eyes off the Wall, and to keep herself focused. She remembered what Callen had told her and Selwyn in the privacy of his solar.

As they got closer Cort grabbed a young steward and sent him running towards the castle proper. Looking back over his shoulder he says, "I don't want to surprise the...uhh commander." He laughs.

Aranya raised an eyebrow. "Does he expect to be surprised?" There were men doing work around the grounds and buildings, men rushing about carrying things...but she could not see men scaling the Wall. She would have to ask Wendwater about his rangers.

"No... but errr... messengers from the south would... be very surprising. So I warned him, Lord Mudd does not like surprises." He nods as he enters the keep nodding to a group of Stewards.

OOC: Did the Lord Commander change since the Battle of the Wall? What happened to Wendwater? Or whatever his name was?

"Lord Mudd?" Aranya looked amused. "Is that what they call Wendwater these days?" She grinned suddenly, remembering the name of the river in the Kingswood, and Selwyn's eyes popping out.

Freezing for a second Cort spins around, "Well actually... I will let Lord Mudd tell you." He turns and hurries up a set of stairs. Moving swiftly down the first corridor he pointed at a door with the sigil of the First Builder. "He is in there."

Aranya was suddenly wary. Behind her the little crone gave her a sad look. "You must speak to him about this," she said grimly. "I must go to the trees for a bit." And she left Selwyn and Aranya, taking Brynden with her.
Aranya nodded curtly to Cort, and then strode into the First Builder's room with Selwyn, apprehensive about what she was going to hear about Wendwater.

Aranya rode back to Castle Black, and was told Selwyn went to the Shadow Tower. Cursing, she put her spurs to her horse and galloped after him, Lustrig and Doyle close behind.

A raven arrives in Castle Black from the Shadow Tower. It is signed by the man Mudd knows to be peaceful, diplomatic, trustworthy Selwyn Royce. The letter is warm and respectful, and assures Mudd that Lord Wull and Lord Bracken have sorted out their differences, and will be coming to Castle Black to celebrate their unity and make peaceful plans.

The roads were cleared to make the progess of Wull's and Bracken's men faster and easier, and the gates were opened at Castle Black.
In Castle Black's godswood, the little old crone sat beneath the heart tree, waiting.
