"Gawyn and Ser Verden made it... Amory drowned. I sent a raven to King's Landing and got a response from the King. So it seems that they have taken over the city. We have been given another task by the King, I will tell you of it while we ride to the camp. Lady Frey is a bit irritable due to all the soldiers around here," Patrek said.

"Lady Frey can..." he stopped with a scowl. "Sorry Pat, it's been a rough week. Shame about Amory but I'm glad the others made it through. So the King has another job for us, eh?" he tried to smile again but it lasted as long as the other. "Gods, I'm tired of this Pat. We defeat the invaders and then it's back to killing our own people again. Is this all there is? How much blood must I see before peace breaks out?" his voice rises at the last

"I do not know, Danwell. When the lords realise that the next crop will suffer because of lack of men, when they realise that their ambitions is not worth it. When the old men tired of war decides to lead a peacefull lives, there will always be a young fool looking for some excitement," Patrek said somberly.

Danwell spat on the ground "The world is full of fools Pat, and not all of them are young. Most are just greedy and dishonourable" he sighed "But human nature is not something I can do anything about, I leave that to the septons" he looked around for a moment, seeing the massive armed force as if for the first time. "Well, this looks like more than sailors without ships. Been making new friends, Pat?" he asked with a sad smile

"Can not afford to make friends with the remains of the crownmen, they need someone to obey after all the blusters they have been through. Fooled by Erik the traitor twice. I lead over half of them to their deaths, Dan, for a castle we had to abandon straight after," Patrek grimaced.

Danwell looked at Patrek for a moment and then clapped him on the shoulder, leaning forward "That's what command's all about lad. Sending men to possibly their deaths" he whispered. "You just do what you can to keep them alive and make the other bastard die for his cause first" he paused for a moment, searching Patrek's face for something.
"You did well Pat. I didn't think we could take Seagard without the riverlanders turning. If anyone let you down, it was me" he said bitterly. "I'll take the burden of your men's sacrifice. All I can do is try and make it up to them...and you"

Patrek grunted, "You could not have known that the Riverlanders had turned, I thought them a forced part in this too. If you had not burned as many ships as you did. The battle would definatly been lost. There is nothing for you to make up for, Dan".

Danwell shook his head "No, it was a foolhardy and desperate move. I should have known better. I didn't think their emnity to the crown was so great as to follow the ironborn but still..." he sighed "Anyway, the past is dead and gone so we just go forward from here. If the King's forces won at Kings Landing, then they'll soon be coming up the Kingsroad to here. Any word on the traitor forces in this region?"

Patrek shook his head, "Other than that most of the Ironborn are either at Riverrun and Harrenhall it is not much to say. The Ironborn still seem split in which "King" they decide to follow which is good. I reckon that one of the factions will bend the knee once they get under siege."

Danwell grunted "Either that or we'll break those knees and force them to kneel. Harrenhal won't be a problem, that's a nightmare to defend unless you have a huge army. Riverrun will be more difficult."

"The rivers could be frozen if we are lucky though, but since when did we get lucky," Patrek muttered.

"We're alive aren't we?" he replied with a smile "That's luckier than most, these last few months. Well, I'd best get the men settled and ready for a return to Seagard then"

Patrek nodded, "Aye, though I had hoped it was the last time I would see the place".

Danwell laughed "It was the first time I'd laid eyes on it. Impressive place but didn't care for the locals. Hopefully we can do something about that when we return. How many ships did we get in the end, Pat? I burned a dozen or so but then had to hightail it out of there before I got invited to a necktie party as the main attraction"

"They had seven left when they fled. Seven more than we have now at least," Patrek sighed.
