"Turn them against me?" Balor said incredulously. "I could have wine coming out of my teats and bread from my arse and the riverlanders would still despise us. That may work for your greenlander knights but the riverlanders fear and hate us. The only way to ensure obedience is to make sure that the fear outweighs the hate" he took the parchment from Edmure's hands and scanned it briefly, before guffawing. "Is this some kind of joke?" Further conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Lord Harlaw and his men. Greyjoy strides up to the man before giving him a bear hug "Dickon, you old rascal! I was wondering when you would get here!" he grinned at the large man, who toothily grinned back "Sorry Balor, these winter storms make for rough sailing. How goes the war?" Balor scowled "Badly, in truth. I was expecting more from my allies by now" looking a little balefully at Edmure.

Over the course of the afternoon, several bands of men come to Riverrun. A mixture of men bearing the red stallion of Bracken & some of Halon's men, who are warmly welcomed. The Bracken men are greeted with much more suspicion.
Lord Drumm also returns with more food & plunder from the surrounding villages.
In one band in the late afternoon, Halon Blacktyde and Lord Bracken himself arrive. "Halon!" Balor greets him with a large smile "By the gods, it feels like forever since you left!" Blacktyde grinned at Balor and clasped his arm in a warrior's greeting "Aye Balor. These riverlanders are too soft to kill me" he laughed. "Ah, milord Greyjoy!" Lord Bracken broke in pompously "A pleasure to meet you at last" he said, forcing a smile to his face and holding out his hand. After a quick glance at Halon, Balor shook Bracken's hand saying, "Bracken. I am happy to finally meet you as well. I was just about to ask Halon where the rest of the riverlords you recruited for us are?" he said softly. Bracken gulped and said "Er, they have, erm, that is to say..." "They're gone." Halon broke in bluntly "As soon as word of your capture of Riverrun spread they ran like the fickle dogs they are. No doubt the next time we see them they'll be licking the scraps from the crow's table again". Balor's face clouded over and he turned to Bracken saying in a dangerously quiet voice "And I thought you were supposed to make sure they did not leave?" Lord Bracken's brow began to bead with sweat and his florid face grew pale "Well, they don't er, know the Blackwoods like I do, milord Greyjoy. I'm sure they'll come round again once Callen's forces take the field. Stag's are bigger than raven's after all" he smiled weakly at his own jest". Balor looked at Lord Bracken for a good few seconds "I do not tolerate failure well, Lord Bracken. Tend to your men and we will discuss what needs to be done later" he said, waving a hand to dismiss Bracken. Bracken's face coloured in anger but as he looked around he gulped, nodded quickly and left. Balor gestured to his men to accompany him into the keep for a council. He looked at Edmure and indicated he could join it if he were of a mind to do so. After a quick whispered conversation with Blacktyde, Halon nodded and left for the rookery. No doubt to send a message.

Edmure came running down from the rookery, knocking aside a man coming up. He had a message in his hands and when he reached Balor he threw it at his feet. "See what you have done Balor! I told you to quit your raids in the Riverlands immediately, and you ignore me!" The note on the ground, snow already obscuring the words read thus:
Balor Greyjoy, when I asked for your loyalty that did not give you leave to burn and pillage in my name. Withdraw from Riverrun immediately and you will be allowed to take lands along the coast and Harrenhal as well.

Balor reached down and picked up the letter, scanning it briefly. "Trial" he snorted, then broke into loud laughter. He scrumpled up the parchment and dropped it to the ground, leaving Edmure with a surprised look on his face. "I would wipe my arse with it, but I fear the ink is not dry. Your 'Coward King' is content to stay on his spiky chair while his realm burns around him and he does nothing. I will follow such a weakling no longer". Balor spits on the ground and stalks off to his solar, leaving Edmure in the softly falling snow.

Edmure watched as Balor stocked up to Riverrun's solar. He knew this was coming, the moment he stepped into the Pyke he knew. He asked for the Ironborn's loyalty and they took it as an invitation to reave, and pillage and burn. Though they had raided Blackwood land, they inevitably decided to raid lords possibly loyal to Callen as well. He might still be able to salvage this though, and so he raced up the stairs after Balor.

Builders and craftsmen had been busy over the last few months inside the walls of Riverrun. The burned and looted interior has been rebuilt, and the horde of workers has increased commerce in the nearby villages as well. Riverrun stands proud and majestic above the Trident once again.
It is said that Lady Jenny Blackwood, once Lady Tully, will soon be returning to the castle of her birth to establish her husband's household.

Pieter frowned, "You should know better about my family then I. They are all married to Blackwoods."

Lord Francis made a frown to match Pieter's. "I am not my cousins, Lord, I am married to no Tullys. I have discontinued my relations with the other Blackwoods, Lord Tully, I wouldn't know."

Lord Francis' brow furrowed and he frowned further. "What do I want? I am appalled that I cannot even speak with my Lord Paramount without being accused of wanting something from him."

Tully looked confused, "You travelled all this way and you want nothing? Then good day."
