Ser Felwick Gower, a massive man a foot taller than most, approaches Selwyn during one of the days of riding. He has with him a second horse, carrying a fair bit of baggage. "You are the new Royce, mi'lord Rhodri says. This is yours."
He hands the reins of the pack horse to Selwyn, and lifts the flap on one of the saddlebags. Inside is the ancient armor of House Royce, worn by the Lord Royce since the days of the First Men. It is made from bronze and covered in ancient runes said to protect its wearer.

In the far distance, they could see smoke rising from what appeared to be ruined walls. The walls of the city were difficult to see, but the smoke had risen so high that it was visible from a great distance away. Aranya stared in horror when she saw it.

Rhodri digs his spurs into his horse -- now named Falcon -- and trots forwards toward the scouts. He is hoping to find a ridgeline to see into the basin of the Blackwater Rush, in the hopes that he can determine the fate of the city and the victor of the battle. His cloth covered shield is bound to his handless arm.

Aranya asked Rhodri to learn what he could while the camp ate lunch. A few hours later the man returned, ashen.
"Your Grace," he said to Callen. "It - it has been madness in there. Butchery. The whole city has been slaughtered and burned to the ground, and whoever is left is creating havoc at a healing camp. I got the story out of soldiers in bits and pieces. Both armies have been almost destroyed. Lord Buckwell, Lord Swann, Rosby, Tarth, and Ser Nyles Crane of the Kingsguard are all slain. One of my own knights, Ser Garrett Redfort, led an attack on the dragon and killed it with his own sword, before it melted him. Targaryen forces stormed the Red Keep and went into the throne room, where they were met with Dondarrion steel, and as they fought the Bloody King and the Lightning King dueled. The Kinslayer cut down Lord Michael, and Kid Death apparently slew Aedon and a hundred others in a mad rage. He's wounded too."

OOC: Didn't see your post Rhodri. Anyway, pretend they still stopped for lunch.

OOC: Okay, done.
Aranya's eyes were flat. "They killed each other, and that pretty boy killed the dragon. It would be good news - except for that." She glanced at the ruined city.

The army had managed to ford the river a ways up stream and had come close to King's Landing. What they saw shook them. Callen shook his head, "Mother have mercy. There can be no good news found in this. We are too late to help against the Targaryens, but lets see what we can do."

"We can distribute food," Aranya suggested. "We have the bounty of the Reach with us. And we can help clean up the city."

"Callen," Aranya said, as his forces swept the city. "We'll distribute the food and clean up. You must ride for the Red Keep and claim the Iron Throne. Go."

Once again, Kit turns around within two days of King's Landing and decides it would be easier to deal with Callen than run from him. He and his companions ride hard back for King's Landing.

"Thank you Ser Nathan. I'm sure I remain foolish looking to you and your men, but I have not yet broken my neck either so there may yet be hope for me." Francis clacked his tongue to sped his horse, and brought himself up equal to the knight. "Forgive my ignorance, Ser Nathan, but why does Tallahar send this contingent of men to King's Landing? Having seen then over the past days, their services mustn't be cheap. They have some great task before them?"

"These are the Golden Roses created by Rindwynd Tyrell when he was squired in Tyrosh they were hired by Tallahar from his Cousin at a very special rate I must say. They are all Battle Hardened fighter's. I say they are worth there coin."

"Ser Nathan, I'm not foolish enough to doubt it." Indeed, after several days of encamping with them, it was obvious. Still the Varner's mind focused on deciphering why the Master of Laws was summoning so many men, and with such a particular history and pedigree. There were not answers, as yet, but that would come in time, perhaps when they arrived in King's Landing.
"How long have you been in Master Tallahar's service Ser Nathan? if you don't mind indulging my curiosity."
