The party of 15 stop moving towards Winterfell top on a regular basis. Jeyne grins each time they do. She doesn't envy them having to deal with Lady Haley Tyrell in full "I'm pregnant and I want to kill you" form.
A day later, they finally reach Winterfell. Jeyne has managed to acquire woman's clothing on the journey. She leaves her horse at the local inn and wanders up to the castle. She enters with a group of goose herders trying to bring in a flock to the castle and then blends into the shadows down in the servants' quarters, listening for any gossip.
A complaining maid eventually gave her the clue she needed. "Some visitor or maybe hostage is tearing up a room in the east wing yelling for some Lord Tallahar and for a midwife." Jeyne stole a white cap and apron and a large pillow from one of the linen closests, disguised herself as a large older woman, and then presented herself to one of the guards. "I'm Elma Thornbush, the midwife, somebody sent for me."
He looked confused. "By the Gods, boy," said Jeyne to him. "If I've been called for, I need to find the mother-to-be, mothers can be very irrational." At this some glimmer appeared in his eye, and he led her to the bottom of the stairs where he handed her off to another guard. "The midwife for crazy Lady Haley," he muttered to the new guard.
This guard led her upstairs. As she went, she could hear Haley yelling. She sounded in good form. "Here's the midwife," said the guard, "Now shut your trap."
Haley was surprised enough to stop when she saw someone else come in, and then quieted completely when Jeyne put her finger to her lips. "I'm Elma Thornbush, the midwife," Jeyne said loudly. "I'll help you through this." While Jeyne was not an experienced midwife, she'd seen a number of births when she was in the Black Widow's camp and trusted her own skills far more than any of Haley's captors. She proceeded to give orders for warm milk for the mother to be, lots of clean linens, hot water and every comforting posset and pain drug she could think of.
