The Gates of the Moon is the substantial fortification at the base of the Giant's Lance, the great mountain upon which the Eyrie is built. The Gates of the Moon is a stout castle with watered moat, drawbridge, portcullis, and gate house. The High Steward of the Vale has it as Keeper of the Gates of the Moon.
The current High Steward is Lord Wayman Royce, of a secondary branch descended from Lord Nestor Royce. He was named to the position upon Lord Robert Royce's death.
Travelers seeking Lord Rhodri Arryn when he is in the Eyrie can guest at the Gates of the Moon.

The Army of Mountain and Vale finally returns home after successful forays in the Riverlands, Westerlands, and King's Landing. Few battles were fought, and very few men died -- the best kind of war. While the bulk of the army is disbanded, a portion commits to the professional duties of the Vale Watch, and will engage in the effort to pacify the mountain clans.
Meanwhile, Lord Rhodri Arryn and his sons ascend the Giant's Lance to the Seven Towers and High Hall of the Eyrie, where they will inter the remains of Lady Becca Royce.
Lord Wayman Royce remains in the Gates of the Moon to relay any messages to the former Hand.

Lilith and her tired party reach the Gates just as dark is settling in. She greets her kinsman, Lord Rhodri, with great enthusiasm and gratefully accepts the hospitality of the Keeper of the Gate. All are saddle sore from their long ride and Lilith's breasts ache with milk.

A letter arrives at the Gates of the Moon just in time for Lilith Bettley and Rhodri Arryn. It is a letter that has come all the way from Pentos, and tells of Elane Royce's marriage to Brandon Buckler.

Lilith and Rhodri toast Elane's marriage with a very fine Arbor sauterne and plot about what to give her for a wedding present. Petra is confused and Belinda burps happily as she has just had a snack at her mother's breast.

Rhodri is quite pleased to hear of the Royce-Buckler marriage. He had known of Ser Brandon Buckler's love for Elane for a long time, longer than Elane herself had known.
Meanwhile, Yohn and Elena Plumm whisper conspiratorially.

A fluffy dog drools all over Lilith's lap. It seems to be staring at her plate of food. It whines pitifully.

Elena nods at Yohn and then walks over and hugs Lilith like a sister. "It is so good to see you again Lilith. How is Belinda?"

Yohn's eyes track Elena as she walks over to Lilith. He shudders, and appears about to speak, but swallows his words.

Lord Yew slaps Yohn on the back and mouths something that could be, "Ugly Bitch."

Yohn glares angrily at Lord Yew. "Lioness," he says. "Lioness on a mountaintop." But he does not continue.

Yohn walks out to the Godswood of the Gates of the Moon and cuts at the weirwood tree with his dragonglass knife, leaving several marks in it.

A dirty, smelly little scullery boy with sooty hair smiled at Yohn. He had smudges of dirt all over his face.
"You mi'lord's son?" The boy's eyes grew huge. "We all heard you were batshit crazy and that you're pagan an..." a passing serving maid boxed his ears and he shut up. "My name's Pate. Pardons, mi'lord."
