An ancient and venerable castle passed down to the Royces from the days of the First Men. It boasts a beautiful and austere Godswood, and great bronze gates.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aranya Stone was bored. She was bored of the young men-at-arms, who seemed to become more dull with each successive fuck, she was bored of the simpering Redfort squires who kept gazing at her, she was bored of this empty castle. Only Ser Robert and his wife Lady Martina were here, and she hardly saw them.
"We need Lord Breyn and Auntie Lilith and Elane and Selwyn and Rhodri back," she said loudly to the empty hall, banging her empty wine goblet on the table. "We need to see Jon again, so he can tell us about his raids. We need our new Lady Lannister back, so I can ask how Allard's little sword performed. And gods damn it, we need some bloody dragons."

The Maester came down to the Great Hall. "Aranya," he said. "I cannot find your uncle. We've received a raven from Casterly Rock."
Maybe Selwyn is coming home Aranya thought. Or the Braavosi. She liked the Braavosi. She could do with an exciting man in her bed right now. "Who's coming back?"
"No one," the maester replied in a scared voice. "Hightower has laid siege to Lannisport. Our lord and your kin are pretty much trapped. The Targaryens too! Princess Daena! What do we do?"

"Go tell my uncle," Aranya said. "Do nothing unless he says so or unless Lord Breyn sends commands from the Rock. But I will send a rider to the Milk Snakes, Stone Crows and Black Ears. Elane's friends there are Chett, Palla and Lorett. Tell them to send ten men each to Runestone. If we don't receive word from the Rock, I'm taking the wildlings and riding for Lord Harroway's town on the Trident, and take ship there, or wait."
"Why those barbarians?" the maester asked disdainfully. "Royce soldiers would serve you better."
"I don't have authority to take Royce soldiers without leave from my liege," Aranya said. "But Elane and I know some mountain clans, and they fight just as good." They probably fuck better too. Aranya meant to find out.

When Lord Breyn made ready to return to the Rock for battle, Aranya insisted on accompanying him with her clansmen. It seemed her kin weren't returning; so Aranya would go to them instead.

"You may accompany me Lady Stone, but keep your clansmen in line. I want mutilations and burnings kept to a minumum. If more than five ears are lopped off a night, there will be trouble."

Chella glared at him but kept her mouth shut.

"Don't worry, Chella," Aranya said. "When we take that boy Callen's soldiers, you can have their ears and I'll feed their manhoods to the goats." She winked.

On arriving back at Runestone, Elane sends word that Lord Rhodri has need of Jach, chief of the Stone Crows.

Maester Cerwyn and Elane split the 2200 dragons between themselves. Elane uses her new money to buy a swift blood bay palfrey.

This post takes place post-4YG.
One of Lord Rhodri Royce's heralds arrives in Runestone to invite the knights of the Vale to the tourney to take place at Storm's End. Rhodri is particularly keen that the Vale represent itself well before the Stormlords, and is eager to see his brother and cousin once again.

After spending more than four years enriching the Vale, Elane is eager to travel again, and tourneys are always fun. The Redfort wards are now young knights. Alliser is eighteen, Tommen is seventeen, and Garrett is fifteen, and they are all eager to ride in the Redspear's tournament. Other famed knights of the Vale join the party and ride for Storm's End.

Lord Breyn Royce recieves a message from King's Landing
Breyn,
I did not speak with you direct since you did not attend my tourney. However I grow concerned that you have not summoned up the forces needed for the battle coming in the North. Did your representative not inform you of the King's command. Please reply swiftly their is dire danger in the air.
Lord Baldwin Lannister Hand of the King

OOC: Oops, I forgot, Ser Robert was supposed to have brought the Royce forces. So pretend Baldwin hasn't seen them yet. Oops, oops.

Ser Jon Royce, the senior Royce knight in the Vale, organizes the defenses in the absence of his Castellan father. First, he ensures the Bloody Gate is well garrisoned and that the Eyrie, our last defense, is well enough stocked to survive a legendary siege.
