Willam rides along beside his cousin. He seems to be observing his armor from the last battle. His pale white armor seems stained red in many areas no doubt from the blood of both friends and foes, and there are several dents that were made as a result of the battle at Casterly Rock.
Turning to Breck "It looks like I'll need to have Kaland repair this as best he can once we arrive at Deep Den."

"I might wait a little longer unless it's not working correctly...I wouldn't count us out of this war yet." He laughed but it was no joke, and only a grim reminder that they still had battles left to fight.

"I'm afraid you are all to right on that matter". Willam peered around observing the tired soldiers from the recent siege.

Ser Byren Selmy rode up the column to the two men, bowing slightly. "M'Lord Dondarrion. How fare you and your cousin?"

"Well, Byren. And yourself? How fared the Selmy contingent at the Rock?"

Byren turned his head, his chainmail rustling as he looked back at his men in the distance, and sighed. "There is not much holding them together, truthfully. I do what I can to keep them faithful, they just aren't battle veterans." Byren stated sadly, looking back at Breck.

"Mostly young boys?", Breck asked curiously.

"By the time this war is over they will have tasted enough of battle to never wish to taste it again." Willam sighed after Breck had finished.

Byren nodded. "Let us hope we do not have to go to war again. I happily defend my home from foreign invaders, but all too often the war is caused by power-hungry lords."

"Yes one man's amibition can lead to a thousand men's deaths" Willam sighed "What for I wonder. I think the chance to be remembered. greed and fear I think is what it all boils down too. Whether a tyrant or a noble ruler all men leave behind is their legacy, and they are willing to risk whatever the cost to strengthen it.
Willam smiled "Enough of that though. I do not wish to bring the mood so low especially during such low times. How do you fair Ser Byren. I hope all is well with you despite this horrid war".

Breck nodded along with what his cousin and friend spoke of...conversations in war generally revolved around the war itself, and thusly were inherently dark and morbid. For a moment Breck lost himself in thought of Nora, and his sons...home, and the idea of spring. Then he fell back to reality and tuned in to the last bit of what Willam said.

"I am well, at least as well as one can be right now. If this war has done anything good for me, it has made me grow greatly."

"At least you can find some value in war", Breck said.

"Yes well, a man can find value in just about anything."

Willam stopped his horse as the column passed him. He peered off gazing against the sun that sank beneath the trees. It's golden shine captivated him as he thought back to the battle at Casterly Rock. His eyes sank as he remembered it, and a his eyes began to soften slightly with tears. He wished he could say it was from the sun but it wasn't. He peered away, and continued to ride on.
