Garrett smiled sadly and shook his head. "Just the Vale Houses," he said. "Baelish, Shett and Redfort. Especially Shett and Redfort. Elane's mother, Elara Redfort, is my lord father's sister. Elane spread rumors that the Arbor had joined the dragon's cause in order to convince other Baratheon loyalists to change sides, and she used her mother to make my father bend the knee to Lord Breyn and King Aegon.
"She didn't do it out of any loyalty to House Targaryen though, I know that. Elane isn't loyal to Targaryen or Baratheon or anyone else except House Royce. And, if she marries, she'll be loyal to her husband's house, but the point is, there are no rules where her family's safety and honor is concerned."
Garrett studied the fire. "She had House Shett killed when they refused to be change sides. When my father bent the knee, she gave us the Shett lands and their castle, Gull Tower."

Donal nodded "There were many instances of that during the war from what I hear. Lots of minor lords took the opportunity during the chaos to advance themselves at the expense of other, older houses. House Tully stood as the Lords Paramount of the Riverlands for over a thousand years and now the black crow flys high in it's stead. It is a reason I took the regency only rather than dispossess the Hightowers, though my own family tried to force it on me. The sins of the father should not be visited on the son - Callen was no Rodrick." Donal suddenly looked thoughtful "And such a rise to power engenders jealousy in it's peers though. I wonder if Lords Frey & Bracken are as happy with things as they stand." Donal laps into sudden silence, aware that he had said too much to this vale knight.

"Brackens hate the Blackwoods, ser, it's been like that for centuries. And with the Blackwoods as Lords of the Riverlands, the Brackens are probably not very happy." Garrett shrugged. "I don't know many men from the riverlands that well, except for Samwise Rivers, I suppose." He said nothing in reply to Donal's remark on Callen. His childhood had taught him that for a Redfort to speak warmly of a Baratheon meant death.

Donal nodded absently "I have not spent much time in the riverlands, either. That may have to soon change. There are plots afoot and I will not be caught unaware like my brother" Donal said grimly
Donal glances at the stars "It will be morning soon, Garrett. Best to catch what sleep you can lad. Tomorrow we will arrive at my estates and lay my son to rest"

Garrett rose and bowed. "I would rather stand vigil over Addam tonight than sleep, if you allow it, ser."

Donal gestured wearily "As you wish, ser. His spirit lies elsewhere now however, all that you watch over is a husk. Be aware that I will not go easy on you the 'morrow because you have tired yourself so needlessly."
Donal rises to his feet and makes his way to his tent to retire for the night.

Garrett stood vigil over Addam's last night before his burial, his sword drawn with its tip against the soft earth, its hilt grasped in both hands. He bowed his head and stood silently through the night, lost in thought.

Ser Alliser Redfort, the Mad Singer, rides up the sea road at a slow, gentle pace on his cow. The blizzard is about to set in, however, and it grows cold. Alliser has gained enough repute to request shelter at a seaside keep. The cow is happy in the cozy barn and Alliser is happy to share the stinking pot boy's bed.

The blizzard slows down for a few days, and Alliser leaves the seaside keep and continues up the Sea Road. He stops at villages on the way, which feed and shelter him gladly. He brings fresh entertainment and fresh news, both of which are precious on any occasion, but doubly so now, with the war and winter.

As the Great force of the Reach marched along the Sea Road, Tallahar was filled with thoughts of glory for his King and himself. With his personal guard and scouts ahead of the army Tallahar was confident that nothing would be surprising them.
As the force camped fro the nite Tallahar sat next to a camp fire enjoying the rather bad food being served.

Vincent sighed as they decamped for the night. He so enjoyed a lovely ride and was looking forward to give a bit of what-ho to those nasty chaps to the north, even if the reason escaped him for the moment. As he tied up his horse, he spotted a lovely flower by the roadside and plucked it. It was a Viola Tricolor if he was not mistaken. How unusual to see that blooming in winter. He took it as a good omen and sniffed it, humming a merry little ditty to himself.

"You what be your name" yells Tallahar at a peasant holding a flower.

Vincent blinked as he came out of his daydreaming. Spotting Lord Tallahar he gulped and saluted, sadly with the hand holding the flower, "Vinthent my lord", he lisped. " A pleathure to meet your acquantathnce!" a small amount of spittle flew from his mouth at the last word.

A messenger rides hard down the Sea Road to announce peace with the new Lord Regent, Randal Lannister, and word that Allard has been arrested.
