"You can not really smell the salt at the Rock, because of the elevation. I do have a growing sense of anticipation, or horrible dread. Those feelings run up my spine in almost the same fasion." Ser Piers waved lazily at some hovering flies.

Finishing his wine skin Gathor rode up beside Ser Rhodri Royce "Interesting thing to say, I am sure Rodrick said the same thing as did many knights and lords."

"Indeed. We are not so different, we men of action, whether we fight for stag or dragon. I do not hate my foes, but my foes they are nonetheless. Within the moment of the battle, aye, I admit to the bloodlust, I see naught but red and feel the vigor in my veins, the life in my ligaments. It is why I chose to paint my spear red and go by that name. Red is battle, red is death, red is life, red is blood"
"But when the sun sets on battle, there is no more pleasure in it. There is no pleasure in wounds, in bleeding men crying on a field, no pleasure to see widows weeping for men lost a thousand leagues away."
"Battle is beautiful but war is hell."
Rhodri takes a look at Gathor's wineskin, and wishes it was not yet empty.

"I have never enjoyed battle, there are other ways of winning wars. Have ever thought of writing poetry Rhodri you have an almost lyrical way of speaking." Ser Piers smiles at the knight.
Turning to Look to Ser Gathor he asks the man, "So good ser, have you had any recent discussions with the Starks? They have remained ultimately quiet during this rebellion."

"A rebellion now? I thought we where bringing the throne back under the dragons ass?"
"but no I seen no wolves from the North in some time."
"as for battle, maybe in another life I would feel better about it, but it seems the warrior wont favor me."

"No, you misunderstood me, we were the rebellion. Bringing down a right evil usurper as I am sure the histories will show." Ser Piers winks over his broad grin. "Histories always have a way of favoring the victor."

"All the more motivation to win tomorrow. What will happen to you and I, Ser Piers, if we fail tomorrow? If we live at all, and then if we avoid the headsman's axe, well the best would be exiled or on the Wall. Ignominy and shame. Bah, we must win."

"An ugly fate for you, but I am only a hostage and the father of the queen" he smiled.

"And if we win, well, you are still heir to Highgarden. No glory for you, but you have won, haven't you? Now I feel a mite outsmarted. Surrender is the key to victory." Rhodri laughes.

Ser Ager Gaunt grunted after he drank from his own wineskin and it became more apparent he was not sober, "Ahh...This...Ahh...War...", and he trailed off into laughter.
The Songlord looked at him and sighed, "You wouldn't imagine how he can wield a sword. He's near killed three dozen men. I marvel at how he works."

Piers laughed out loud, "I have no fear of tomorrow's battle, if our side were to fall; my lord would be in the same position tomorrow, that you are in today, Ser Gathor. And even if my lord died, I could escape whenever. I am but a minor land owner and unimportant with out my lord. No one would waste time and resources trying to hunt me down."
"So is the price of high standing."

Gathor thew his head back and laughed "I guess there is no real thing as a lucky birth then,"

"So is the price", Ser Ager retorted.
The Songlord took longer to think before he opened his mouth, "Tomorrow could signal the end of an era, and dawn of a new one. Whether we live to feed new mouths in our family, or die upon a sword...today is the last day of what we know. I might have a request from you two...if we manage to come out on top...then let us meet again in King's Landing for a drink and meal." Sylas Caron smiled and waited for the pair to respond.

"Eat and drink and make merry. It is agreed. I might even bring a plum for Ser Piers."
