"I had meant the oath to protect you and the royal family with my life, to obey your commands, and to keep your secrets." he replied, knowing he was well passed the point of foreswearing land, a bride, and children. "I simply want you to know that there is someone you can trust. You have seemed troubled as of late and I cannot help but worry."

"I am tired. This is a hard life I have been given." Rose replied

"It is the Hand's job to heft the burden of that life and allow you some rest." Oswyn remarked. "Have you given much thought to who is worthy of filling your uncle's boots?"

"I have. Thought about it." Rose replied.

"Perhaps it will prove an easier decision than choosing a husband, though no less vital." he said with a wry smile. "Has your uncle mentioned suitable replacements for his post?"

"He thinks the choice is obvious." Rose replied.

"Perhaps you'd be willing to enlighten me?" he asked, leaving unsaid that he thought his father was the obvious choice.

"The man who has been running the realm for years while my uncle was at war of course." Rose replied.

"Your grandfather is an administrator without peer." Oswyn allowed. "But the Hand is also expected to marshal the Royal Army in your stead. I cannot imagine Lord Tyrell managing such a task. Someone must take on your uncle's role."

"That is true, but none can even hope to administrate my realm like my grandfather." Rose replied. "I honestly want my realm to need more administrating then warring."

"It is my experience that what we want and what occurs rarely coincide." Oswyn replied, seemingly lost for a moment in his own melancholy thoughts. "You must work for peace with one hand and prepare for war in the other, as it comes to warmongers and pacifists alike."
"The Royal Army must have a marshal, even if your goal is never have to use him" he implored, conscience allowing him to sit idly by as this naïve and idealistic course of action was considered. "Someone must fill the void left by your uncle if the realm is to thrive. Few things deter well as well as a commander none wish to face."

"My uncle is not leaving the realm, but merely stepping aside. And Lord Dawnrose is my grandfather's man more then my own. I would have either of them to call on in a battle. Can you think of any better?" Rose asked neatly.

Oswyn did little to hide his discomfort at the thought of the Reach gaining even greater influence over the realm, but offered a weak smile.
"No, I suppose I cannot. Who would replace him as Master of Coin?"

"My uncle Mace has always worked at my grandfather's side, and knows the accounts and books perfectly. There would need to be no costly transition." Rose replied.

"It might irk the other lords to give so much royal favor to your family, but if you think he his the most able man for the job I cannot fault the decision." he said, with some hesitation.
