"But it would suit my brother better," she retorted, taking away her hand. "And surely a man as fickle as that would not make such a good consort for the queen. But you said you were not in the running for the queen's hand in marriage. That makes me think you had a particular reason. You cannot have it both ways, my lord. Though, as I said, I do hope friendship between us will be possible." She was smiling as she said it, nonetheless.

He laughed heartily.
"I jest with you, my lady." he said, when he had caught his breath. "I have no interest in the throne or Her Grace's hand. Name calling and talk of better men will hardly solidify this friendship."

"I was but teasing," she replied. "Aside from my desire for friendship between us. I am deadly seriously about that. If I agreed with everything you said, surely you'd declare me a flatterer."

"I suppose there are enough of those in the capital as it is." he remarked. "Though what else is a courtier to do but flatter?"

"Perhaps some courtiers may give honest counsel," Izzy replied. "As we have discussed, that is what House Hightower intends to do. Would that not be a good thing in a city crawling with flatterers?"

"Separating the honest counsel from the manure seems to be the trick of the matter." he mused. "A talent I have yet to master."

"Give it time," Izzy advised. "It's something we all have to learn, after all. And I know you have spent many years at war. A soldier's life is rather different. I have not been to war, but I have often imagined that there is fewer opportunities for slyness and suspicion, and less need for it too. Gwayne has the same problem. He is not devious by nature. Perhaps you honest men might...stick together? After all, such men are what our young queen needs most. She does not need men who will scheme against one another."

"War is deception itself, my lady, with truth as its first casualty." Oswyn corrected. "And Her Grace needs all sorts of men, I am sure."

"Oh yes, but not liars. But I see this is not a battle I am going to win. Perhaps I might retreat and challenge you another day...in my own territory." She smiled slightly before standing, her body outlined against her close-fitting bodice. "I do hope you will come to Oldtown, Lord Oswyn. I am sure you would find much to amuse you."

Oswyn let the issue rest, though he was sure there were more liars on the Small Council than honest men.
"I am certain you are right, Lady Isabel. If Her Grace attends the tourney, I will no doubt be present to command the escort fleet." he said in a non-committal fashion, though his cobalt eyes followed her curves as she stood. "It has been a pleasure to make your acquaintance my lady. If your brother wishes a word, send him by. If you wish for a tour of the Royal Fleet, I will have Kellington find an opening in my schedule to provide one."

"I shall remember," she vowed. "I am sure such a tour would be most entertaining. But I shan't detain you, my lord, I know you will wish to put duty before pleasure. Good day, Lord Oswyn."
She left the office, giving him a lingering smile before walking away.

"I was actually... Just received the news that Harlan jumped from my office back in Solitude." The Lord said matter-of-factly taking a seat across the desk.
"Nice office..." His mouth twitched. "Never knew you were fond of ships."
