On their way to the keep Damon walked beside Elyssa.
"So, have you ever visited the South?" He asked, unsure of how to make conversation. "It's... well, it's warmer than here."

Elyssa nodded, speaking quietly and politely to this shy young knight from the West. "I have. Many years ago, at the funeral of the last King. I found it very pleasant. I really loved all the flowers that would grow in the gardens there. They were so colorful! But, well, away from the Red Keep, it wasn't so pleasant. At least in the north, all the air is clean, if cold."

"King's Landing is interesting, from the little I saw of it," Damon agreed. "Though I didn't get so see any gardens. And then we went to the Stepstones and it wasn't very nice there."
He stopped, noticing how boring her was. "Uh... Lannisport is nice, I think. I went there as a child..."

Balthazar Manderly fell back to speak with the Lannister, "You do not see many Lions in the north. The wolves killed them all long ago. Is the Rock as posh as they all say?"

"I'd imagine the Stepstones weren't nice at all, at war," she observed mildly. "I've never been to Lannisport either. Surely you would go all the time, though? It isn't far. Not like Winterfell. There is nothing near there but trees." She eyed the Manderly but held her tongue. He wasn't the politest of men, it seemed.

"I barely grew up at Casterly Rock," Damon told. "I spent more time with the knight I squired for at Crakehall. As for the Stepstones... there was nothing there but a lack of trees." He gave a nervous chuckle before turning to Manderly.
"I haven't uh... read much history, but I do know that lions would prefer warmer environments....."

"Oh, I see. My brother squired at the Hightower. Where is Crakehall? Is that in the Reach, too?" Elyssa politely and absently made small talk, toying with the pendant that hung about her neck. She was rather bored. This young man was too unsure of himself, too nervous, too literal. She looked at him out of the corner of her eye and frowned almost imperceptibly.

"It's in the West, by the sea," Damon answered with a shake of his head. "I learned much from Ser Paxter..." He thought for a moment, wondering if she would want to know this.
"He even took me bear hunting once. I killed one with a broken spear." He beamed proudly.

"Bear? I didn't think they had many bears in the south." That impressed her, a little, even though she didn't want to be impressed, not by this boy. "And...did you say a broken spear? But you could have died! Were you scared?"

Damon gave a shrug. "There are a few bears in the West... well, there have to be. And yes," He nodded. "He broke my spear with his paw. Then he tried to bite me, so I stabbed the spearhead in his mouth."

Elyssa shuddered. "That was very brave of you. I hunt, but only with bow and arrow. I don't think I could manage to take anything down with a spear, much less a broken one." She laid a hand on his arm. "Do you like to hunt, then? We should ride out sometime, once we've gone to Winterfell."

Balthazar laughed, "You are the worst liar I have ever seen Kitty Kat. I had heard lions could play the great game well." He chuckled, and eyed Elyssa, "Elyssa right... are you two being matched?"

"I was never much good with bow and arrow, but I would love to join you," Damon replied, before looking back at Balthazar, his youthful ignorance making him somewhat patient.
"I do not lie; that is the way of my father," He told Balthazar, before revealing his own necklace, which was a bear claw. "This is the one that scratched me."

Balthazar laughed, "I hear the have lots of gold in the West, and bearclaws are sold by the dozen up her for mere bits. My father wears a jet pendant, you do not think he slayed it himself." He smiled and looked the boy up and down, "Do you have the scratch still? You skin still seems to have a virgin's glow."
