Joanna looked at Harold as though she knew there was one, single, only correct answer. "Perhaps."

Annara said "I am inclined to agree, Ser Harold. But I hope you will not tell that to a septon. It might be rather...shocking. After all, if everyone is allowed to pray how and when they please, we'd have no need for septons, would we?"
She smiled at her slightly heretical statement.

He smiles. "Septons are important other then people needing to pray, but I see your point. I have no desire to offend anyone, it is simply an observation I have made, in the end, it seems that good or right, is determined by the person themselves." He explains his understanding.

"I understand," Annara said. "I have often wondered though, why it is that the Faith requires an intercessor between man and gods, but the old gods do not."

"I do not think I am in the right to say, I have not studied the Seven as strongly as others have my Lady." He explains. "However perhaps it is to remind of the ones who devote their lives to the Seven."

"Why, I imagine it's because greedy septons enjoy tithes and donations," Eirek answered with a smirk.

"I am not sure I agree with that,, Ser Harold." Annara said with a frown. "Anyone can devote their lives to the gods, and they don't have to be a septon to do it."
She looked at Eirik.
"That is part of it, I don't doubt. Septons are always encouraging the faithful to donate to their septs."

"Yet however the Sept's give a lot back to Westeros, Does the Sept not teach the young? Does the Sept not provide protection? Does the Sept not fill hearts with hope." He looks to the sky. "While you may not believe in the Seven, the Sept does in fact aid Westeros and perhaps it is to unkind to say that all Septons are greedy who seek to line their pockets with stags."

"Perhaps not all of them are terribke, but I for one would feel safer even on a battlefield beside my Lord husband rather than holed up in a sept with clerics to protect me." She shrugged. "But I suppose some fools value religion over the real safety conferred by cold steel."

"Steel is certainly better than prayers," Annara agreed with the other woman. "Prayer can be a comfort, in its way, but swords are more useful. Lord Tully is correct that the sept is a beacon of hope, but I would rather put my trust in steel than septons."

"The safety is not for battle, the Sept is for people without a home, people who are scared of the night, people who feel their lives in danger of starvation, or cold." He shakes his head. "Swords do not solve every problem, they do not calm everyones hearts, sometimes hope is enough to save a life." He explains softly.

"I am not sure I agree," Annara said. "But, then, I am not a peasant in need of such help. So how could I know?"
She sighed.
"Excuse me, ser. I believe I had best find my lord husband."

"Those who cannot care for themselves had better learn, for winter is coming," murmured Joanna under her breath. "Come now, Eirek, let us find your father. I have been looking for him for some time now." Taking Annara's lead, she bade the Tully good day and looked.to Eirek tio guide her to her lord husband.
