Mariya headed to the barracks as well, but since there was no way she was going to undress in front of men (not to mention the fact that it was entirely inappropriate for a maiden girl to do so) she found one that was too big and put it on over the tunic she was already wearing before picking up a spear and heading back to Brice and the others.

Perhaps Brice would allow him to keep his crossbow, surely it would come in handy if they met resistance. It would seem feasible to keep his sword instead of a spear. You couldn't sheath a spear.
