"Lord Hightower might like it that way, you never know." Finn said. "There is also the question of... attire? King's Landing is quite formal, and I know you occasionally like to put on a squire's tunic and breeches..." Finn said hesitantly.

"Long dresses are no good for training," she said. "The skirts get in the way of free movement. And breeches are better for riding, too. Those are my usual reasons for wearing tunic and breeches. I wear gowns most other times."
She indicated the blue dress she was currently wearing.

"I know that they are more practical," Finn replied, "and I'm a practical person myself. Asking you not to train with the sword would be like asking you not to breathe, and would serve no purpose in any event. A person must be what they are. I'm just asking, that if I could have something practical... but feminine made, if you would consider wearing it in the yard in preference to men's clothes?"

"I suppose I could," she said. "If I find it practical. It's worth a try, anyway. I never saw such a garment in Oldtown before. Maybe they might, in Kings Landing."

"I had an idea," Finn said, "For something that might work. We shall see."

Mariya nodded.
"I can agree to that. How long do you think we will be allowed to stay here?"

"I imagine will return with Lord Garnet, but who can say for sure." Finn said with a shrug, "Did you have something you wanted to accomplish first?" he asked.

She shook her head. There was nothing she could think of.
"No. But I've lived here my whole life. It's daunting to be sent away into somewhere strange. I expect Kings Landing is a much bigger city than Oldtown."

"I don't know," Finn said honestly. "I haven't spent much time in Oldtown either, for that matter. Mostly i have been in the tower, keeping to myself. It was an error I think."

"Perhaps. We've been sheltered from the real world here. But we can't change the past."

"I don't know about sheltered. I would call it a microcosm of the real-world. Things outside are much the same, only on a much larger scale."

Mariya had never heard the world microcosm before but she nodded as if she had.
"Oh. I suppose that's not so bad then. But aren't you nervous about starting a whole new life away from here?"

"I am very anxious to get away from here," Finn replied.

"Really?"
She looked at him with new eyes now, surprised by the admission.
"Do you not care for the Hightower then?"

"Yes." Finn replied. "It's filled with children. I am not a child. I never have been. Look at that nonsense at the reception with the cake throwing. It's rank foolishness. And its always like that. They don't ever want to grow up. They think that they can just lived sheltered lives here. But you can't. Not forever. So better to get it over with sooner."
