"Maybe you should just take more men with you?" She suggested. "The King will have a large entourage, I expect. Will you be well enough to ride out with them?"

"I'm going." Finn said resolutely, "And yes, I had thought of that, regarding... the extra men."

She nodded.
"I'm sorry you're hurt. Do you think I would be allowed to go as well? Or is it only for the men?"

"I've some control of the guest list, or at least I did," Finn replied, "The hardest part is remembering not to scratch it," he added with a sigh.

"I suppose it must be. I know the feeling," Mariya confided. "I would like to come if I can. I've never hunted lions."
She looked all around his room with curious eyes.
2i'm sure the king will appreciate the efforts you've made."

"It's not as enjoyable as it sounds, if my experience is any indication," Finn replied with a smile.
"We shall see. Felix the Kennel master said he would tell Lord Garnet of what happened, but whether that means I'll be rewarded or punished I can't be sure."

"You'vealready been punished," she said, indicating his wounds. "It would take someone with a hard heart to punish you further. But let's speak of other things. Do you think the king's visit here will change anything?"

"The King is marrying Sapphire," Finn said, "I heard it from Sapphire's own mouth."

"Oh."
She went quiet, speechless as she digested that piece of information. She and Sapphire didn't exactly get along well so she wasn't sure whether or not she liked the idea of the Hightower girl as queen. And yet it would be unkind to say so, when Finn, who she liked, was clearly on better terms with Sapphire than herself. She toyed with the ends of her hair and struggled to find words.
"That is...I suppose I should congratulate her. She will surely be an ornament to the King's court," she said, truthfully. "Is she happy about it?"

"Yes, that was my reaction as well," Finn replied, "She seems...pleased with herself," he said.

"I suppose she would be," Mariya observed. "It's a great honour to be chosen to marry a king. I couldn't do it, but Sapphire will do well at court, surely. And what about the rest of us? Will it change things for us, do you think?"

"I shouldn't think so," Finn replied, "the Hightower dynasty began some time ago, this just formalizes things."

"That's true. I suppose it's good news though. But...did you expect this? I'm quite surprised."

"How could Hightower NOT marry his line into the King's?" Finn said, "It would be foolish not to."

"I never thought about it," Mariya said. "I can see the sense, truly, but I never needed to think about politics or alliances or anything. But should we all think about it, or just lords?""
