Mariya leaned close and whispered.
"To do what men do, we could pretend to be men."

Lara rolled her eyes, "Have you even considered the difficulties of your plan?"

"No, but I've not actually attempted to do it yet," she said. "It could be done, I know it could!"

Lara said, "Even if you tried to pass as a man they would think you too feminine and mock you. And if they discover the truth what will you do?"

"I...I don't know. But it's likely the only chance either of us would ever have to get what we want. Unless we can persuade some man to help us, and you said you think that's not very likely."

"I did... but we can not simply start wearing male clothes around here. You are proposing we run away." Lara laughed, "And even if I did they would look for me in the Citadel. My father would consider me being so desperate."

"Oh. Um...then I don't know. It was the last resort, anyway. Do they not have the Citadel in the Free Cities, then?" Mariya wondered. "There must be men of learning in other parts of the world."

"I want to be a Maester, if I just wanted to be a scholar I could stay here." Lara said, "Was your hope that we run away to the free cities together?"

"It was an idea rather than a hope," Mariya said. "I think we could achieve our goals here, if you only had the courage to try. I know it won't be easy, but I have told you the ways I think it could be done."

"That is for me, what is the idea for you?" Lara asked.

"I want to be a squire, so I can learn to be better with the sword. I always used to read about the Warrior's Sons. I would join with them and persuade them to allow women in their ranks, or else form a group of likeminded women to fight in the name of the Seven," she explained.

Lara asked her, "Are you asking me to form a group of like minded women to fight in the name of the seven?"

"If you would like to, yes. We would need a maester to tend our wounds, wouldn't we? So who better than you, who would understand the hardships we women would face?"
Mariya smiled slightly, her eyes alight with passion.

"I have never said anything before... but Mariya I believe the seven to be simple myths used to make people feel better about their empty lives." Lara said softly.

Mariya gasped in horror. She had always believed in the Seven and though she did put on a front regarding her devotion, it stemmed from her true feelings.
"Lara! But how could you? You don't believe in the Old Gods, do you? Or..."
She paused, hesitated.
"Or R'hllor?"
That last was said with a hint of contempt.
