"My wife's always told me I'm thicker than a castle wall," Lord Redwyne laughs, "I s'pose she's right on that one."
"Can we head to your castle, Grimm? I confess I've stopped here for more than just asking permission to hunt pirates in your waters."

Grimm nodded, "Of course." He turned, and lead Redwyne toward his keep, "With a fleet that large I would think that the war has started again." He looked questioningly at Redwyne.

"That's not a third of my fleet," Redwyne says. "It might be a little large for the job at hand," the lord allows, "But the only thing these Ironborn respect is force. Gods know the king isn't gonna enforce his own peace on these waters, so it falls to us to let Greyjoy know that he isn't immune to the laws against piracy."

Grimm nodded, "If it is the Ironborn, I am with you with out question."

"It's good to hear that," Hugo's smile is warm and broad. After a moment it fades into a more pensive expression. "I've been thinking lately. Not something I do very much, ha! But I've been thinking that us on the islands and coasts need to watch out for each other. I talked with Hightower about this a few months back, some of his ships sailed with me. Ser Erik never cared a whit for protecting the waters. And now... do we even have a regent any more?" He shakes his head. "Tell me about the other Shield lords, Grimm. Do they follow your lead?"

"They are all allies, and listen to my words, but they do not follow unless coaxed. Or bribed." He replied sincerely.

Hugo runs one hand through the thicket of his beard in thought. "What if it helps them? You mentioned the size of my fleet. This far north, you're more exposed to reavers than we are on the Arbor. My fleet could guarantee you Shieldlords against attack. Any ship you lose, I'd treat it as if one of my own was sunk."

"I should have mentioned that I do think they will aid us against the Ironborn. We have felt their taste often." He replied with a frown.

Hugo nods slowly. "The Ironborn's aggression is the symptom... not the disease. They grow bold because we are weak. Our regent was a fool. Our lord is a hostage at the Rock. Lannister has stolen half of Hightower's godsdamned fleet, and Neville was to frightened to make protest." Lord Redwyne shakes his head.
"I know you're good for chasing off raiders. I'd never question a Grimm on that. But I'm asking if you'll stand up with me and my friends and choose a regent of our own, and demand our lord be returned to us."

Garnett Grimm stumbled, and came to a stop, he gave a slow whistle, before hooking his thumbs behind his belt. "So this time has come...."

Hugo nods slowly. "Aye, I think it has. We Reachlords have had a bad few years. The lion is no man to trifle with, and Gods know I don't want more war, but it's time for us to stand up for ourselves. There's others who feel the same way, too."

"How do you mean for this to happen. It is easy for you and I to say this we have the sea, but who would dare support us from the mainland." He winced, "Do not take that for acceptance... I am just curious."

"Ser Erik is dead, and the Northmen have done us a favor by setting the precedent of lords choosing their own regent. We call a council and choose a good man for the job, then back him when he calls for our lord to be returned to us. As to the mainland," Hugo shrugs. "You are not the first lord I've talked to about this, Garnett."

Garnett looked down, and frowned, "That is one of those ideas that sound good in principle, but poor in execution. And that could lead to our execution."

Redwyne snorts at the wordplay, but his mirth does not last long. "If shit comes of this, let it fall on my head. It's time for a change, Grimm, and it won't come unless we stand up and grab it." He frowns in silence for a moment. "Do you have any sons? Unmarried?"
