Just a little thread for myself to think about what to do for each of my characters, who to interact with and goals and all that shite.
For my benefit and for the curiosity & amusement of Mr Smith.
Main Characters
Lord Symon: More of a military man than schemer, he'll be trying to build up some alliances with neighbours like those in Gulltown (Vale), Dragonstone and perhaps Braavos, Arbor & Tarth.
Strengths: Single minded in pursuit of his goals he is perhaps a little undiplomatic and terse in his language. Can be cold and ruthless in execution of plans.
Weaknesses: Either of the above traits could also be turned against him in the wrong circumstances. Also fears the ocean because of what happened to his father. Far more comfortable commanding on land than sea.
Possible goals: Either eliminating local raiders and gaining alliances that way, or not above playing the double bluff and creating a force of raiders and then 'eliminating' the threat he created.
Lady Ellyn: Unloved wife & mother to the Celtigar children she remains isolated on Claw Isle, never really feeling like it was her home. Dotes on both her children, allowing them far more freedom to express themselves than she ever had. Has angrily clashed with Symon several times over their behaviour and always sided with them over him. Worries that she may be put aside for a younger wife as a result.
Strengths: Ferocious in defence of her children and a shrewd bargainer with a talent for making money she remains the heart of the small trading empire she created on Claw Isle and thinks Symon's ideas of combating raiders (she doesn't know about his thoughts of creating raiders) very risky. Tends to prefer slow but steady wealth generation than sudden risky ventures.
Weaknesses: Paranoia as a result of feeling powerless in a "man's world" as a result of her political marriage and more recent fears about divorce. Keen to create allys of her own, not necessarily those which her husband would want.
Ser Othor: A simple man for simple pleasures, he will be my plain brute fighter for any martial contests or battles. Unconcerned about his physical safety (probably more through arrogance and stupidity than anything else) he is brave & reckless and, as a result tends to make friends & enemies easily in equal measure.
Strengths: Easy to Roleplay! Fight, Fuck, Booze & Fight.
Weaknesses: Actually does have a very hidden tender side for his two bastard children, though doesn't give a shit about the mothers except when he wants a shag.
Second Tier Characters
The kids will just be kids - Becca will run around getting into scrapes and mild adventures & interacting with other younger characters hopefully.
Ideas: Will probably stay in KL and/or with Lady Ellyn in her travels. Would love to see Dorne, the North and anywhere/everywhere
Bran is a bit more warlike and, if I'm ambitious, I may try and squire him off to a powerful lord for alliance value and also the ability to RP somewhere else.
Out: Will not go to the Iron Islands. Will be reluctant to go to Dorne.
In: Ideal preference the Arbor, Vale, North or Stormlands
Ser Jon Celtigar: Pretty much a glove puppet for my main character Symon, he pretty much does whatever he tells him too. Loves sailing and the sea and is the defacto 'Admiral' for the Claw Isle fleet. He is married but this is a sham marriage and he is homosexual, though he hides this as well as he can, given the society's opinion of such. Several of his own men suspect his tendancies (indeed some have intimate knowledge of such!) but he is generally popular and so they tend to leave those moralistic debates for the Seven to work out.
Strengths: Plain man for fighting and combat he is a little unrefined and boring currently.
Weaknesses: Is terrified of being publically outed and will pay a lot to keep it quiet. However will flatly refuse to betray his brother's trust and will seek to silence any blackmailers if pushed too far, rather than risk exposure.
Maester Vickon: Will mix & mingle with other maester characters and provide some knowledge and specialist info if required. Harbors a dream of being nominated to the council of Maesters in Oldtown and will do almost anything to anyone who offers him the merest chance of success in that regard, including betraying his Lord's trust to some degree.
Smiling Rafe Summerwind: Not quite sure what to do with this nutter. Currently the court fool/mummer/spy for Celtigar he has no loyalty to anyone but himself and is quite possibly insane. His goals & motivations are whimsical & capracious to all including me.
Any other ideas are gratefully accepted. I'm more of a gardener than architect (i.e. very loose ideas which adapt to events, rather than being fixated on a specific goal and driven to achieve it)
