The channel of water between the Arbor and the mainland. It sees heavy merchant traffic and is patrolled by the Arbor fleet, which routinely stops passing ships in an effort to combat piracy and smuggling.

The Seven Deaths is intercepted off the Arbor. A sleek, fast-looking ship with a woman as its figurehead and the name Lady Victory painted on hull sails towards the longship. It flies the burgundy and blue of House Redwyne, and signals via flag that it intends to come alongside the Harlaw ship.

Ser Gryffydd Harlaw orders the ship brought to a halt, and waits for the approach vessel to come up alongside. He eyed the Lady Victory with an impassive face, but it was clear that he was sizing up the larger vessel, taking into account its strength and size and speed, and the skill of its crew, should they ever become engaged in battle.
"I am Ser Gruffydd Harlaw," he called out in a clear voice as the other ship drew up next to his. "Who is your captain?"

Lady Victory cuts her sails and a single row of oars appear from belowdecks to manuever her alongside the Seven Deaths.
Her captain is a tall man with a short brown beard and eyes like chips of flint. He carries a sword but wears leather, not plate. "I am Oromyr Redwyne, captain of this vessel," the man calls out. "You are a long way from home, Harlaw," he states.

"The seas are my home, Captain," Gruffydd replied. "May I ask if you bear relationship with the Lord of the Arbor, as your name suggests?" he asked.

"His brother," Oromyr replies shortly. His eyes sweep over the seven-pointed star on Gruffyd's helm, but he makes no comment. "Do you have business with House Redwyne?"

"Indeed. I mean to sail to the capital, for the King's Tournament, and I would request safe passage through your lord brother's Straits," Gruffydd replied. "As well as that, my lord uncle, the Thane of Harlaw, has requested that I speak with the Lord of the Arbor concerning a pact of alliance, between the most powerful men that sail the seas."

Oromyr Redwyne frowns. "You'll have our hospitality," he says, almost reluctantly. "As for my brother, he is away from the Arbor, but you may speak to his son about the business of your lord. We'll see you safely into Ryamsport," Oromyr nods once at Gruffyd, then disappears from the rail to order his ship to port.

Ser Gruffydd orders his crew to follow the other ship into port. Maron Harlaw watched the proceeding with interest. His mother rarely spoke of her life in the Arbor, but he knew that she was a minor relative of the Redwynes, and so he watched his supposed kinsman curiously.
