Cunning: 30 (Deception)
Survival: 29
Will: 35 (Leadership)
Knowledge: 30
Warfare: 101 (Strategy)
Stewardship: 30 (Bargaining)
Description: Lord Quellon is a hard man, as all Ironborn are raised to be, who grew up killing and wenching and raiding coastlines from Bear Island to the Arbor. He's had three salt-wives in his four and fifty years, although only one currently lives and her child is the only one of his secondary children to survive infancy. He's got at least half a dozen bastards, spread around various ports and coastal towns, but has recognized only one of them as his own, Dagmer Pyke. His Rock-Wife, of the Stonetree clan, has given him a son and two daughters, one of whom is married to Lord Volmark, and the other to Lord Drumm's heir on Old Wyk. Quellon captains the
Reaper's Touch, a battle-scarred vessel with a hardened crew of raiders, which boasts a reputation of having never been bested at sea.
Balor Harlaw (The Heir of Ten Towers, Captain of the
Scythe's Shadow)
Combat: 55 (Axework, Athletics)
Cunning: 25
Survival: 44 (Wilderness Lore, Awareness)
Will: 35
Knowledge: 20
Warfare: 91 (Endurance)
Stewardship: 30
Description: The heir to Ten Towers, by the Lord's rock-wife from the clan of Stonetree, one of Quellon's vassals on the far side of Harlaw, is eight and twenty, with a young salt-wife and a son of his own, though he has not yet taken a rock-wife to give him true heirs. An impetuous young man, he is a skilled fighter and sailor, as all Ironmen must be, and he captains the
Scythe's Shadow, a fine longship commissioned for him after he killed his first man at seventeen.
Ser Gruffydd Harlaw (Captain of the
Seven Deaths, the Lord's Nephew called 'the Knight')
Combat: 60 (Jousting, Swordsmanship)
Cunning: 25
Survival: 49 (Animal Handling, Awareness)
Will: 25
Knowledge: 20
Warfare: 91 (Endurance)
Stewardship: 20
Description: Lost in a shipwreck with his father and infant brother at 5 years old, he was found on a beach in the Westerlands with only a ring taken off the finger of his drowned father. He was raised by the family of the western knight who found him, although since returning to Harlaw at twenty one to find his blood kin, he has been accepted by his uncle and has thoroughly embraced the Old Way, save for his stubborn worship of the Seven gods of the Andals and his Knighthood, making him an oddity among Lord Harlaw's men. He is skilled in the knightly styles of combat, able to fight with either the sword or lance, both on foot and ahorse. He captains the
Seven Deaths, a longship he seized almost single-handedly from a rebellions vassal that rose up against Lord Harlaw, which was subsequently crushed by the Thane.
Secondary Characters:
Dagmer Pyke (Captain of the
Bastard's Fist, called 'the Bastard of Ten Towers')
Combat: 50 (Fighting)
Survival: 44 (Wilderness Lore)
Warfare: 91 (Endurance)
Description: The only acknowledged bastard of the Lord of Harlaw, Dagmer lacked the 'privileged' upbringing of his younger brothers and instead scratched, fought, and killed his way up among the ranks of Lord Harlaw's captains, to eventually take command of his own vessel, the
Bastard's Fist; it is not a longship, but a galley in the Greenland style, which he was gifted after killing its former captain in single combat during a raid against the Mallisters of Seagard.
Maron Harlaw (the Lord's Son by his Salt Wife)
Combat: 55 (Marksmanship)
Survival: 29
Stewardship: 30 (Business)
Description: Maron Harlaw is not yet a man, by the standards of the Ironmen, though at sixteen he is a skilled archer and sailor, and has a surprising aptitude for handling sums and ledgers, making him valuable to his lord father even as an untried boy. He serves on the
Seven Deaths, his cousin's vessel, and longs for the day when he can command a ship of his own.
Rodrik the Bloody (Captain of the
Open Wound)
Combat: 60 (Fighting)
Survival 29 (Wilderness Lore)
Warfare: 91
Description: The greatest of Lord Harlaw's warriors is Rodrik the Bloody, a man who once found his wife abed with another man. He killed them both in their bed without blinking, and then boarded his ship, the
Open Wound, and sailed to the small town from where she hailed, and slaughtered her entire family for good measure. He has a vicious reputation, and his axe is among the most feared in all the Iron Islands.
Andrik the Smiler (Captain of the
Grinning Corpse)
Combat: 40 (Fighting)
Survival: 44 Wilderness Lore
Warfare: 91
Description: Known as one of the best sailors of Harlaw, Andrik the Smiler is utterly loyal to his lord, and is widely known for the scars that adorn his face, the legacy of a vicious wound that nearly cut his face in half, which now give him the impression of wearing a ghastly smile at all times. He captains the
Grinning Corpse in the name of Lord Harlaw, which is one of the fastest ships in the Iron Islands.
Maester Duncan (Of the Citadel)
Survival: 39 (Awareness)
Knowledge: 30 (Learning)
Stewardship: 30
Description: The young maester of Ten Towers was only recently appointed to his position, and has spent many months struggling to reconcile his teachings in the Citadel, with the hard and unforgiving way of life on the Iron Islands. He has learned to accept the violence that exists all around him, helping those who he can, when he can, but ultimately he serves Lord Harlaw loyally, having been trained by his superiors in the Citadel that service is the highest calling to which a maester answers.
