"Fool," Joanna muttered. "Does he not realise that his love was hopeless?"
She closed the case, with the letter in it, then sent for Aalina.

Aalina arrived a few moments later.
"You sent for me Princess." She said inclining her head. "Elenya has a dance to show you sometime."

"Oh good," Joanna said, though there was no joy in her expression. "I am always interested to see new dances my daughters have learned. Sit down, Aalina. We haven't talked properly in ages. Pour us a cup of wine each."

Aalina frowned at Joanna's expression.
"As you wish." She poured the drinks and sat where Joanna had gestured. "What is it that is bothering you?"

A flicker went through Aalina's dark eyes.
"Of course I am. Silvana seems to be adapting well and the girls are keen to learn. What would be wrong?"

"Oh, I wondered if you were happy yourself, that's all. We have all suffered a terrible shock and frightening experiences. Are you coping well? Have you had any bad dreams?"

Aalina gave her a strange look.
"That is not what is bothering you Princess. I know you. There is something else."

"Alright. It's not that," Joanna admitted. "But I am concerned about your welfare. More specifically, your happiness. Are you unhappy here?"

Aalina didnt reply for a while.
"Of course, you are good to me and a friend."

"Yes. It seems, however, that you have made a new friend recently. Master Doryn, the bard. Is that correct?"

"What of it? I am friends with most of the servents here Princess. You have never been bothered about my friendships with them."

"No, because they know their place, but I think the bard does not. Do you think of him as only a friend, or something more?"

She looked quizically at Joanna.
"Something more?"

"Do you not admire him as a man?" Joanna asked.
Her tone was blunt but she didn't care. She thought too highly of Aalina to see her make a fool of herself over a bard.
