Joanna, Aalina and the three girls arrived at Runestone in possession of nothing more than a horse, an axe, a bow and a quiver. Joanna looked and felt utterly miserable, and so did her daughters.

Jherek, hearing news that his liege had returned from a trying journey, rushed to her. Upon seeing her, he dropped to one knee, lowering his head.
"Princess Joanna! I was so worried about you."
He looks up at the girls.
"Elenya... Cassana... Silvana... you are all here. Thank the gods, I was so worried about all of you."
He stands and looks Aalina in the eye, not needing to say anything at all, the single tear running down his cheek explaining everything.

Aalina ignored him busy with the girls.
"Princess, I will keep them in with me tonight, if you do not mind."

Joanna nodded in acknowledgement of the bard's comments.
"Your concern does you credit, Master Doryn. Perhaps some music would soothe our spirits once we have settled down."
She turned to Aalina.
"You are a good friend to me, Aalina. No-one could ask for more loyalty than you have shown to me. I trust you absolutely with my daughters yet we are so newly escaped from adversity that I cannot bear to be parted from them tonight. We will all five sleep in my bedchamber. The bed is large enough."
She turned back to the bard.
"Master Doryn, have my husband and his men returned to Runestone after their fight with our attackers?"
She did not want to think about the alternative.

"As you wish it." Aalina said quietly. "May I take them to the Sept. We should all give thanks to the seven."

"Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Let us all go to the sept. After we've finished praying, have the maids bring us a tray of food up to my chambers so we can eat together. Then we shall bathe the girls. I'll want a bath too, of course."
Joanna looked sadly at her grimy clothing.
"And a change of clothes. We will all feel better after food, a bath and clean clothes."

"Oh, Mother preserve us, no! Did no-one come back? Not even one man?"

"Oh, Joanna. Im sorry, I truly hoped that he would be here."

Joanna shook her head.
"I am not going out there myself, silly. We'll send out my husband's men to find him. You may go too, if it please you, but I must remain here. My children are too unsettled to be left and my own nerves are lacerated. I dare not leave Runestone yet."
