Preparations have been taking place for several weeks, as February draws to a close and the would-be knightly population of the Stormlands begins to trickle into Storm's End for the tournament that Lord Baratheon was holding while he hosted the King and his court. Any squire whose Knight is present to vouch for his squireship may participate in any of the three events; Archery, Jousting, and the Melee.
[OOC: Any person may make a squire NPC to roleplay. This tournament will be RP'd rather than rolled, unless stranger gives me the OK to roll it myself, and will begin tomorrow. I hope everybody has fun, and may the best squire win.]

A young boy with shaggy brown hair in his eyes and wearing an iron skullcap two sizes too big approaches the booth where the youths sign up. He is riding a skinny old horse who looks like she has seen better days. He adjusts his helm and brushes the hair out of his eyes, then squints at the steward manning the booth.
"There a prize or somethin' to this tourney?" The kid asks, "Like a buncha coins or a neat sword or somethin'? Or like a big feast where you get to sit at the head table and everyone calls you m'lord?" The boy spits off to the side of his horse, perhaps in an attempt to look tough. "Cause a tourney with no prize's not much of a tourney, right?"

"Can't you read?" Asked another squire, whose chainmail was finely made and had a small griffin on one breast, who was waiting to put down his name. He was pointing at a sign, which indicated the rewards for each event of the tournament. He stepped up to the steward. "Jason Connington, for all three events," he said, before stepping aside.
The sign said that the winner of the Joust would receive a purse of 50 Gold Dragons, the winner of the melee would receive 30 dragons and the winner of the Archery would receive 10.

"Of course I can read," says the boy, who could not, and stares intently at the sign as if he could unravel the secret of literacy by glaring at it hard enough. "I just meant, like, more specifically, is all." He pushes hair out of his eyes again. "I'm signing up for all the events too," he says to the steward.

"Your name, and the Knight who you are squire too?" the Steward asked both boys. "He will be required to vouch for your squireship before the tourney begins."
Jason Connington looked at the other squire, and then spoke up. "I squire for Ser Rickard Kellington."

"I'm Demp," the other squire says. "Demp Rivers. I'm squire for Ser Bannen Keath, but he's not here. 'Cause, uh, he trusts me so much to be good at fighting and stuff he wasn't worried at all." Demp bites his lip. "But I got a shield with his crest on it and everything, if you don't believe me."

The steward frowned, looking the boy over with a critical eye. "Very well, son. For all three events, you said?" he asked, after a long pause.

"Yeah," Demp says. "Wait. How many arrows do you need for the archery competition?"

"Arrows will be provided, squire, if you are worried about their cost. Each round the targets will be moved back, there will be as many rounds as necessary to determine a winner," the Steward replied.

"Oh, good," Demp says, "Cause I only got four arrows left. I had to use all the others on the way here. To, uh, shoot bears. One was like twenty feet tall. I'd show you its teeth, but I lost 'em on the way here."

A tall squire with a missing front tooth comes to the table with an old man who is coughing loudly.
"Marcus Buckler, of Bronzegate, this is Ser Grafton," he says pointing to the old man who just coughs flem everywhere.

The steward nodded, and waved Demp aside so that the next buy could sign up.

Three boys, identical, approach the steward and the other boys. Their hair is mussed and they appear as though they have just been physically fighting. They were locked in an argument, but paused to speak to the steward.
"We are here to sign up." They said in unison. Then the front most boy spoke alone.
"I'm Yon. Yon Manderly. These are my brothers, Joren," he indicated the middle in the row, "and Eled." He said, pointing to the rear most boy.
"I can talk for myself, Yon!" Eled shouted, shoving Joren, who shoved Yon. "I'm almost fourteen ya know!"
"We're almost fourteen you lackwit!" Joren said, shoving Eled. "And I'll be fourteen afore you anyhow, since I were born three minutes before you."

The steward wrote both names down methodically, recognizing the sons of the Hand. "And who are you squires to?" he asked them.

Demp moves out of the way, but watches curiously as the other squires sign up. When he sees the identical Manderly triplets he rubs his eyes and looks again. "Whoah," Demp says, "You three should join a mummer's troupe or somethin'. I bet you'd make a ton of coin."
