Ashurgi decided it was Pate he trusted least, but he stayed silent waiting for Lord Steffon to speak.

"Very well," Steffon said. "Thank you, goodman, my lady. Seven watch over you." He turned and remounted his horse, and began to ride out of the village. He indicated for his knights to follow. They would ride three days to the Southeast, toward the coast, and if they turned up no traces of the Vulture King in that time, they would turn westward.
Steffon called the Summer Islander over to him, after they were out of earshot of the village. "What do you think, Master Ashurgi? I could not tell if their reports had any accuracy at all."

"I did not trust the elderly man, but even if he was telling the truth, we will find them eventually, they can not escape us forever."

Steffon nodded. "Aye, there will be others who have seen these Vulture Bandits. However I do not want to get too far inside the Dornish border, lest we are taken a raiders and attacked by Lord Wyl's men."

Ashurgi nodded, "it may come to crossing into Dorne though, the prey will use any means to escape, and he will know where you cannot follow him."

"Aye, and if it is clear that they have entered Dorne, then we will follow; this bandit will not escape," Steffon said. The party continue to ride, searching for any indication that the Vulture King and his men had come this way.

They ride for several days, and eventually they reach the remains of what used to be a holdfast. It is still smouldering in places, although the ashes are wet. It rained two days ago. There are four bodies inside. One is dressed in burned and warped plate mail.

Ashurgi uses his skills to see what he can make of the whole affair.

There are many horse tracks, deep in the ground. They were riding hard, in a circle around the holdfast, and they were carrying armored men.

"The men who did this were armored," he said, as he observed the damage. "They had been circling the holdfast."
He looks to see in which direction they went.

It is difficult to tell for certain for the tracks are several days old, but Ashurgi believes they headed south.

He tries to get an idea as to their numbers once he can find their tracks moving in a direction.

The tracks near the burned holdfast are just a mess, but further away, Ashurgi believes they were traveling single file in an attempt to hide their numbers. He thinks more than ten but well less than fifty.

He returns to Steffon.
"I believe our prey are travelling south. There is more than ten of these men, but not nearly fifty."

Steffon nodded, and turned his horse southward riding quickly and indicating for his knights to follow.
