He smiled as he finished his story, hoping that he had pleased Lady Dayne with a happy ending.

She clapped her hands together, "Well told. But I am not sure which story I have taken a liking to more. Does this story imply that the descendants of those living in the Vale are born of the Stranger?"

He leaned back against the tree and reached into his cloak, withdrawing a green apple.
"Would you consider it inappropriate of a man in my station to try and know you better?"
He extended the apple to her.

"Aye." He looked away, taking a bite from the apple. "I have only one friend here, and she is just as busy as the queen. I fear what will happen to my mind without interaction with others."

"Who is your other friend? It's hard to develop friendships when I myself am so busy. You are a welcome diversion when I do have free time. There are many here in King's Landing, you should not restrict yourself to befriending only nobles."

"I find some solace among the nobles, that I may have conversation with some just as intelligent as I am, even if they do not think I am on the same level of thought as they are." Another bite.

"There are plenty of servants that are intelligent, they have their own world and society below the highborn. Some can read and write. You should not discount them. Besides, not all nobles are intelligent either." She giggled. "And Lady Becca, do you still fancy her?"

Jherek chuckled nervously. "It's not so much the Lady Becca that worries me. It's that uptight, high-and-mighty meathead Konrad that is always watching over her." He sighed and finished the apple. "Wishful thinking got nobody anywhere."

Jherek laughed with her. "You have done nothing to make me feel bad, only something to alleviate my pain. Mayhaps I could make amends with Konrad, that he would allow me to perform for Lady Becca someday." He smiled wistfully, gazing off into space, then shook his head. "Once again, wishful thinking."
