"A little swolen around the eye, but that will settle soon enough." Euric replied, smiling warmly. "Thank the gods you were not hurt worse, though... you killed one of the men?"

Arya nodded her head. "I took his dagger and I kept stabbing him. I tihnk he tried to get away and then I stabbed him again until he fell down and didn't move." She never thought she would ever have to touch a real weapon in her life let alone kill a man. "I don't like killing father. I didn't feel like myself. All I could do was act. I don't remember what went through my head or even if I was thinking. I don't want to go through that again."

"Sshhh." Euric said in a calming tone, putting a gentle finger on her lips. "It is important that you remember one thing; you had to do it because you needed to save yourself, not because you wanted to kill him."

Ary nodded and closed her eyes. "Would you stay with me a while, until I fall asleep father? I feel really tired."

"The Prince sent for guards after her, and the men returned swiftly with the news that the maids were at the sept, mourning the tragedy of their fallen friend. I believe our only lead lies dead."

Euric cursed again, this time silently. "There is still a chance... questioning the other maids if they'd seen her talk to anyone suspicious. Damn it, where is Milo Bettley?"

Maryn shrugged, "Should I try and speak with the other maids? With this scar and these new wounds I'll frighten the creatures to death."

"Maybe it is good if they are a little scared." Euric replied. "They'll talk more. I assume Prince Maeker is going to try his best to find the culprit?"

"Perhaps, but from the list of people I gave him, it may be tough to be...unbiased." Maryn looked grim.
