"I feel two stone heavier after Manderly's feast alone," Rhaegar said, grinning. "Though what befell Lord Thatcher," he said, his smile faltering. He left the comment lingering.
"Do you know anything of it?"

"Not a lot." Euric said shaking his head. "You're not going to try and go after Tomas Thatcher, are you?"

"I'm not so much a fool, father. I am your son, after all," he reminded. "I simply refuse to sit in the dark. Not when it's family," he said determinately, his eyes hollow. He did not wear his social mask with his father. He had nothing to hide from him.

"Then what are you going to do?" Euric asked with raised eyebrow.

"What's asked of me for now. I have no illusions that I can do better myself than with the help of Daemon, Quentyn and the others. I most of all only want to know why. I cannot see a motive," he said. His fist clenched. He hated being helpless; not being able to kill his problem with his sword.

Euric nodded. "They will investigate as best as they can. I don't believe it was Tomas; I know the boy too well."

"Why then did Thomas run? In pursuit of the criminal? Too many unanswered questions."

"I wish I knew." Euric replied. "Perhaps Tomas knew they would suspect him, for some reason or another."

Rhaegar sighed. "I have spoiled our reunion with talk of shadows and daggers," he said, forcing a smile. "I saw Arya for the first time in years. She has grown so much, and Beric too."

Euric smiled. "They have indeed. I get to see Arya a little more frequently but it is still strange to see her grow so. She is a beautiful young woman now."

"Her sixteenth nameday is not far from not, it's true. I would have been glad to see her grow up, should my people not have need of me," he said, though no regret can be traced in his voice.

"Perhaps I should attend." Euric said. "Though only for a short time. Feasts and parties are nothing for me anymore."

"I suppose it will be the same for me in the end," he sighed. "I can barely stand them now. I see no point in them."

"Lordship comes first, then the freedom." Euric replied. "Though it is good to show yourself at social events. Otherwise the rumours start, and those are bad in Westeros."

Rhaegar chuckles at that. "Those are good for a laugh or two," he admitted. "Have you spoken to Arys or the others recently?"
