"Very strong."
Joanna sighed, her expression sad.
"I do not want to accuse you of lying, but Lord Thathcer is an honest man, despite his overly harsh nature."

Daemon nodded slowly, "Then what have you come to say?"

Joanna's expression was solemn with overtones of frustration and anxiety.
"i wanted to know if you were testing me for some reason."

Daemon smiled ruefully, "What could I possibly be testing?"

Joanna shrugged.
"Whether I really would help you even in a difficult sutiation, I suppose. Am I wrong?"

"What if it was a test to see if you would back me no matter what?" Daemon asked slowly. "What should I think now?"

"I wish I knew. I do want to help you but it's hard, when you tell me one thing and Uncle Talyn tells me the opposite."

"So I should think that you would side with him over me." Daemon replied, "And now I know that. Is there anything else you want to speak of while you are here."

Joanna panicked.
"I did not side with Uncle Talyn, as you put it. I will admit that I was troubled by our conversation. I did wonder if Uncle Talyn just didn't want to talk to me. if that is so, there is nothing I could have said to help the situation."

Daemon raised an eyebrow and thought for a moment, "If you wish, we can just this behind us and move on. I do not want to make you uncomfortable." He motioned for her to come to him.

She stood and walked over to sit beside him.
"I think that's best. Uncle Talyn said some harsh things to me that I'd sooner forget."

Daemon nodded, and leaning forward he hugged her close, "I agree, and I do love you dearly." He reached under the sofa, and pulled out a writing tray carrying parchment and ink, "If you have some time I could use your help, but I must swear you to secrecy."

Her eyes gleamed with interest.
"Of course. I have as much time as you need. Tell me what I must do."

"It is a tad silly, but the last night, after the day of reflection I am going to be hosting a masquerade ball in the palace itself." Daemon replied, "And I have decided that instead of allowing every one to choose their own bland masks that I will do it for them. At least for our family. Maybe some of the others as well. What do you think?"

"I like it. Daemon, that's a brilliant idea! Whose have you decided on so far?"
