The son of Lord Euric Dayne and Princess Alysanne Targaryen. Born into hardship and strife, Rhaegar remembers very little of his early childhood, though he sometimes dreams of terrible things he must have seen as nothing more than an infant.
His earliest conscious memory was of the birth of his younger sibling, Beric. Over the years, with his father warring, leading, aiding the realm or training men, Rhaegar felt the duty rested on him to help his mother raise the other children.
He did all he could to ensure they were well; playing with them, fetching his mother what she needed while tending the newborns, or playing with his siblings and cousins in the yard or with his aunt. He cared for them through the years his father was busy or away, though when his father was there, he spent most every waking hour with him. He looked up to his father, and in part did what he did for him as much as his mother.
When his mother was giving birth to his second sister, tragedy struck. She died in childbirth and left Rhaegar scarred. Instead of blaming his sister, he saw all that was left of his mother in her, and cared for his most of all; his other siblings having grown some already.
In effect leading the household while his father was away, he began to raise his siblings. He had gotten along superbly with his cousins, often spending his free time with Daemon or Quentyn, the eldest of his cousins.
When his father had introduced their new mother, Rhaegar did not know how to take it. He would not let his mother be replaced, and he paid even more attention to his youngest sister Arry.
When his new siblings arrived, he was not responsible for their wellbeing as he was with his own, and life began to be a little more normal after that. Being the first born and male, he was to inherit the Targaryen holding of Summerhall when he came of age.
By the time he was a grown adult, he was on his way to be everything his father was. Strong, tall, like in look, skilled with the blade and a natural leader. He took his bittersweet seat in Summerhall without looking back.
Character Physical Description:
Lord Rhaegar is taller than most men, towering over some. He is fair of skin and thick with muscle. He has long silvergold hair that is often braided behind his head. His deep indigo eyes are bright as opposed to his fathers and his face more handsome.
