A blind folded, and bedraggled Aaron Royce is escorted into the walls of Moat Cailin. He is led into the keep where Lord Bolton stares at a blank parchment holding a quill about a bottle of ink. Bolton does not seem to notice his quest.

"Hello?" Aaron asked curiously, still unable to see anything around him.

Bolton stood up and nodded to one of the crannogman guarding Royce. The man removed the blindfold easily.

Aaron tilted his head to one side, cracking his neck loudly, and then twisted doing the same to his back. "Lord Bolton?" he asked hesitantly. He remembered the man from the campaign against the Others, but had only met him once or twice and fleetingly at that.

Bolton nodded, "How are you betrayer?"

"Not bad," Aaron replied, rolling his eyes. "And yourself?"

"I am not entirely pleased where my life has lead me. But there seems to be no point in complaining, so I am fine." Bolton replied. "You are taking the black?"

"It was my original intent, yes, but I have had much time to think while wandering around in the Neck. I do not know how I feel about a lifetime of cold. The Queen did not force me to take the Black, I chose to do so but now I feel I might have chosen in correctly. Perhaps living as a hedge knight is not so lamentable a fate as I originally thought. How fares your Lady wife? I had desired to send her my condolences for her sister's death, but Lord Thatcher would not let me do so from my cell," Aaron replied.

"Beatrice and I are still betrothed, and I doubt the wedding will ever actually take place." Bolton stood, "She has ordered that I lead my men forward and attack. I have delayed as long as I could attempting to show her the foolishness of her actions, but tomorrow we ride south."

"She orders you to attack Harrenhal? That sounds like a suicidal command if ever I heard one," Aaron replied.

"It does. She thinks our forces moving will goad Lannister into attacking as well. I think it will have the opposite effect." Bolton sighed, "Life as an Oathbreaker must be so much simpler."

"It's a matter of perspective, really. I broke no oaths, I was just foolish enough to lead my army's rear-guard myself. My father taught me nothing, if not to assume responsibility for the consequences of my actions," Aaron replied. "Lord Lannister will not be provoked to march, I believe you have the right of it concerning him."

"So I will die, pointlessly along with thousands of my men." Bolton studied his desk, "And I can think of nothing else to write her. Nothing..." He rubbed his eyes. "I promised Reed that you would be escorted North, and I am going to send a hundred men as guards, under the command of my younger brother.

"By the time we reach the Wall, he will likely be the new Lord of the Dreadfort," Aaron remarked. "You should not march from this fortress. Lady Beatrice must know that it can be held against huge attackers, but south of it your army has little chance of surviving."

"I envy you that choice. It is not one open to me." Bolton replied, "I will march south on the morrow."
