Cleos speaks up, knowing Simon was more a soldier than a general than a leader. "We can not leave Kings Landing to fend for herself. The walls will hold for a few days, but eventually they will have the capital and where will we be then? If it is in fact a feint, then we can simply turn around again.
"Far better to lose some time than to lose the capital."

"Some time and some Mander castles?" Euric asks. "Only a few are manned; the Dornish would have easy pickings. This chase could simply go on and on..." He slumps into his chair. "I say we march towards Grassy Vale, crossing at Bitterbridge. If the Dornish move our scouts are bound to see and it won't make a difference if they move north or south."

Owen nodded his head at the proposal. "Aye, Grassy Vale then," he said. "That will keep us near their path should their aim be the Reach, yet close enough on their heels to likely keep them out of Kings Landing. With luck I suppose, and the will of the Seven," he said, touching the the little carved figure of the Warrior which hung on a gold chain around his neck.

"Indeed." Euric replied. "Then we just have to figure out how we will win against twenty thousand men with twelve and a half." Euric thought for a moment. "Right, Owen, if it comes to battle I want you beside me the whole time. Ser Simon, I want you in the van, Borcas will have command of it. Ser Cleos, you'll be in command of the rearguard."

"As you wish," Owen said, looking up and away from his commander, as was his custom when he had to say something he didn't like or believe. He smiled, "enjoy yourselves, Borcas, Ser Simon," he said, "you know I'd be next to you if Lord Euric didn't require me to play his baby sitter," he said with a wink, knowing what the truth was.

Euric smiled grimly and waited for the other men to speak.

Simon shrugs, "The van is as good a place as any for me, the sooner I see the enemies blood on my blade the better. Though I had hoped it would be Lord Royce and his Valemen...," Simon scoffs, "But the Dornish will work," he says with a smile.
Cleos nods, "The Rearguard will do fine, though I had hoped to keep the Riverlanders with me," he says with a quick, worried glance at Simon. "I find they fight better when they are together."

"The Riverland men will act as the rear guard." Euric says. "Crownlands will act as center, the Stormlanders split into left and right flank. The van belongs to the Mander."

cleos was obviously upset at Simon being separated from his kinsmen and was about to say so until Simon rested a hand on his shoulder. "Calm yourself Cleos, you have your place and I have mine." Simon nods for Euric to continue as Cleos sits, obviously still unhappy.

Euric looks from man to man. "Well then, if it is settled I want you to get the men ready to march."

"Yes my lord," Cleos says before swiftly departing. Simon watches the departing man before turning to Euric.
"Pay him no mind my lord, he simply does not wish lose yet another close friend so soon." Simon shrugs, "But this is war. I must ask though, what prompted you to place me in the van away from the rest of the Riverland force?"

"While I do not see any reason for you to be punished for the death of lady Tarly, I know her Grace would want to see you act as loyal as possible to her cause." He sighs. "I would have put you with the Riverlanders but as it was the Mander that was ravaged I will let it's men have the first pickings of revenge. Your men have already seen too much fighting which is why I wish to spare them."

Simon nods, "Of course. I wish to serve Her Grace as she sees fit, and so I gladly take my place among the first to see the fighting. I've had my revenge, now it's time to help those Mandermen get a taste of their own. You are a good man Lord Euric, I'm glad to be serving under you."

Euric smiled at the man's sudden display of kindness. It wasn't often that one would see such in war. "Thank you, Ser Simon. If it comes to battle I hope we can both drink to it when it is done."

Simon grins, "If the Gods look kindly on us it will be so. I would much like to live to lead men against Lord Royce before the end. I do not wish to die fighting the Dornish, but any death in battle is the best that I can hope for no matter the enemy."
