This structure stands at the junction where the High Road joins with the Kingsroad as the latter snakes its way up the continent from King's Landing. It lies half a day's ride north of the Trident River, across which the forests of the Riverlands grow densely.

Lord Aaron Royce camps his army of seven thousand men near the Inn, with a screen of scouts between their camp and the River, constantly ranging out searching for any hint of enemies approaching.

As word gets to the camp that Thatcher's forces had moved to the Ruby Ford, the camp is quickly dismantled and the large army begins to follow its own tracks back up the High Road. Two thousand knights led by Lord Aaron himself, armored in heavy plate astride the hardiest war-horses of the Vale comprise the rear-guard, protecting the rest of the army as it marches back toward the Bloody Gate.
