Rowan laughed, "No I had always admired your style" said the younger man, "truly," Trant said showing deep sincerity, "I had hoped to compete at the tourney for the coronation and to not use this time to pick your brain would be irresponsible."

Brynden nodded, "My first bit of advice is this, never train any one how to fight. People can study your disciples and learn how better to defeat you." He smiled as he finished speaking.

Rowan laughed, "Sound advice. . . sound advice although I didn't think you were going to compete anymore, tournament jousting ain't the same as war jousting," Rowan said, "so a few secrets couldn't hurt could they?" the younger man persisted.

Brynden nodded and smiled, "I like your persistence. Surely you have Trained with Eustace? I told him everything I know. I love that boy like a son."

"Really," Rowan said, "I did not figure Eustace for the jousting type, a war hammer. . . now women weep when the see his skill. . . did you ever joust with his father King Rodrick? I had heard he would enter tournaments as a mystery knight."

Brynden scowled, "I did. There was a time when he was a good friend. Then the fat fuck hit my sister. I wanted to kill him. Selyse...." He shook his head, "It does not matter at all. He was a good warrior even if he failed at every thing else he ever tried."

Rowan nodded solemnly the history that Bryden spoke of was well before his time.
"What was it like at the Siege of King's Landing during the Basilisk invasion, the account I read by Maester Jameson said that whores were lining the walls to repel the invasion and that Lord Benfry Smith fought off ten thousand men to hold the Keep as long as he could?" Rowan said excitedly the young knight obviously dropping any decorum he had shown as the queen's messenger as he rode along with the Legendary Knight.
"Were the Basilisk as bad as the Others, I read accounts that they had creatures that could turn a man to stone?" Rowan fired off questions before realizing how silly he sounded.
"I am sorry," Rowan muttered turning his head away.

"They were cruel, but not as bad as the others." He smiled slightly, "But any danger can kill you if you take your off it or risk your wife needlessly."

Rowan nods solemnly, Bryden Royce had seen a particularly bloody time in the history of Westeros he hoped his own history would not be filled with such violent calamities.
He rode the rest of the way to the capital with the Knight without speaking again of the subject.
