Claw Isle is an island north of Dragonstone just off Crackclaw Point. Formerly owned by House Celtigar, it passed to House Barclay (formerly Bar Emmon) and then to House Velaryon in the reign of King Rodrick.

Eighteen ships led by Lord Aurane Velaryon anchor off the coast of Claw Island, on their way to Kings Landing.
A small party of men are ferried to shore to scout out the situation on the island, with strict orders to report back by the end of the next day.

When the men do not return, a hurried conference on the flagship takes place between Aurane Velaryon and Tyrio Querini. A decision is made and the fleet sets sail for Driftmark.
